Bought this today as apparently really good and want to have brown legs.

I got the one for fairer skin.

Anyone else used it?

ambre solaire protect bronzer spf8 self tanning cream.

Smells gorgeous rubs in easily and appears within one hour. Is pretty light really takes a couple of days before good colour so no disasters poss really. Once you have got the colour you want just do it once or twice a week. Careful round the hairling/eyebrows but not much more so than with foundation.

babaworshipper · 16/05/2006 17:02

hairling? Hairline.

Blossomhill · 17/05/2006 13:12

Oh I don't know what to do. Love the colour but it has gone a bit streaky again :(

babaworshipper · 17/05/2006 13:39

That is a shame BH, did you use your mitt this time?

Blossomhill · 17/05/2006 13:51

Thanks puff, will look for that!

Baba - I think it may be because it was streaky from the first time. Will persevere though Grin
Oh and one other thing can u use that spray all over? Thanks

OP posts:
babaworshipper · 17/05/2006 14:00

I use spray all over body up to collarbone then the face one down to collarbone.

How did you find it with the mitt? just wondering cos it isn;t really that wet, just wondered if the mitt soaked it all up.

Blossomhill · 17/05/2006 14:36

It actually does look better with the mitt. Just wondering if it's because it was streaky the day before and I have gone over it again it's just streaking over the old tan?

OP posts:
babaworshipper · 17/05/2006 16:15

Probably is streaking over the first lot, you might need to contain yourself till it wears off then start again with mitt!

Blossomhill · 17/05/2006 16:51

baba - please give me your start to finish guide to self tanning. thanks :) as you are such an expert!

Crystaltips · 17/05/2006 18:41

Where d'you get the mitt ?
Why is it so much better with the mmitt than without ?

Thanks

Blossomhill · 17/05/2006 20:04

crystaltips - because your fingers make the streaky effect. With the mitt it is effectively a sponge so you shouldn't get marks (and I don't)

okey dokey!

  1. Use body scrub regularly, i particularly like aqua mirablis by lush. Don't use this on a fake tan night though cos it is a heavy moisturier too.

  2. Have bath/shower
    3)Dry off

  3. put small amount moisturiser on dry bits, feet bits knees elbows etc

  4. I start at my neck and work down avoiding elbows until no cream on hand just rub a small amount over elbows, same for knees, feet, hands. Rub cream in frantically for far longer than you think you should, it just more or less be gone by the time you are finished rubbing in. I suspect this is the key bit tbh.

  5. wash hands carefully palms and between fingers only to avoid white gloved look!

  6. apply face tan down to collarbones, repeat hand washing!

  7. walk about naked until completely dry

  8. admire tan/glow

  9. repeat as necessary

re your streaks. i suspect that the tan will just continue to build up over whats there so unless you can streak in the exact opposite places it would be better to let it wear off and start again.

CatBert · 17/05/2006 21:09

Spot on baba. Being fair skinned and freckly I have spent years trying to get the perfect fake tan look - and you describe precisely what I do. It's a bit of faff, but totally worth it.

I would add a 5a) Once applied, take damp cotton wool pad and wipe lightly over knees, ankles, sides of feet (near bottoms), elbows and bottom of wrists to ensure no streaking on classic streaky places.

Except that I have indulged this year in Clarins and had applied two lots over a few days and got a fab looking all over tan, and even painted my toenails and felt FAB in last weeks gorg weather. Then I went swimming with my DDs and there was SOOOOO much chlorine in the water it bloody washed almost the whole lot away including the toenails!

I was devestated! Angry so much time invested, and that Clarins stuff aint cheap (and DH not going near duty free for a while now)... Sorry DDs - no more swimming during fake tan season Grin

babaworshipper · 17/05/2006 21:13

aaagh chlorine eating your perfect tan? Nightmare. Note to self, no swimming for small over the summer!

SomethingAboutMary · 17/05/2006 21:16

Glad i founf this thread, i can never get the self tanning right, i am fair skinned & don't have clue whihc one to buy anyone got any suggestions for me please as i am looking see through Grin

Blossomhill · 18/05/2006 18:09

thanks baba :)

just wondered though if you use the spray it's hard to rub in isn't it?

OP posts:
babaworshipper · 18/05/2006 18:34

I do use the spray, I find you have to be rather more generous with it than you think to have any to rub in at all.

Now you mention it I do remember when I tried it the first time I had vague notions of just spraying and hardly rubbing in a la adverts but it wasn't that successful. Now I spray generously and rub until it stops spreading then go back over the bit I just did rubbing in. Tends to be quite quick to get full body coverage then i stand madly rubbing in for a while.

Blimey BH I was doing this last night and deconstructing it and thinking you know this is quite complex when you break it down!
