B*stard fridgefreezer has died - looks terminal this time!

Having cost us a small fortune in repairs (and it's only four years old) the hateful thing has probably gone terminal this time. It's tripping the electric so the engineer thinks the compressor might have 'gone'.

Can I have some recomendations for a new one.

The dead one was a whirlpool american job with ice and water, but I'm not sure I want one that fancy this time, after all the breakdown stress. Am toying with a smeg retro one, but will I be able to cope with the smaller capacity? Defo don't want a whirlpool, won't touch another one of those ever again.

Any ideas anyone?

ok in the which magazine (about 2 months ago i think)the Bosch classix did buy far the best for EVERYTHING and it was one of the cheaper ones and very reliable apparently. I searched for it online and found it for about £220.

When i finally egt my own place im gonna get it! Grin (one day when ive finally saved enough money!!! Wink)

starlover · 28/03/2006 23:01

get a lovely bosch!

Passionflower · 29/03/2006 00:03

Umm, reckon I need at least 100 litres freezer space and double that fridge....Bosch seems a bit on the small side as I'm one of the cook in baulk and freeze gang.

Another vote for Bosch here! IMHO Smeg's look nice but the freezer bit is far too small.

starlover · 29/03/2006 00:06

bosch are VERY reliable though...
was just having a look at some online but they're all measures in cu ft, not litres... but there are biggero nes

Usable freezer volume: 96L

Usable fridge volume: 192L

Ledodgy · 29/03/2006 00:11

Arghh, am getting cold feet over giving up on american style - ordinary sort look so little compared. Evil b*stard whirlpool had 450 ltr fridge and 150 ltr freezer. Arghh X 2.

Hi, I recently compared a couple of prices of fridges between John Lewis and \link{http://go-electrical.co.uk/browse.php?departmentSelection=Refrigeration&PHPSESSID=39cab97b55d3e6b09a3c65b4764525ab\this site} and the site I linked to was cheaper. I don't think I was doing anything silly like comparing one inc and the other ex vat or anyhing but anyway, worth a look.

We have \link{http://householdappliances.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/sbs/145801/6881702.html\this one} and it's been good. I think the Cods might have it too actually. I certain;y wouldn't be without the water/ice dispenser again because dSs help themselves :o

Carameli · 29/03/2006 11:42

we got a Bosch recently and its brill.

would recommend the coop website for fast delivery, you can choose what day for most of their items. They were also really helpful.

I had a terrible time with Sainsburys electrical website. Don't go anywhere near them.

DH has put foot down on ice and water! It is apparently non-negotiable Grin. That Samsung is looking good Soupy. Will try to find locally. Is the bar thingy good?

Thanks WWW, I'm determined to buy from a local shop this time so there is someone to shout at if things go t*t's up. Bought the last one through Magnet and has been unmitigated disaster from the start.

Saw \link{http://www.appliance-city.co.uk/asp/product.asp?recorprod=1&product=1478&cat=&ph=&keywords=&recor=&SearchFor=&PT_ID=\this} today. Anyone got any experience of it?

Thanks everyone.

Not that it matters now, but our Samsung doesn't have the bar. I've never quite worked out the point - just open the door ffs :o
