£160 for a new car key... what are my other options?

My car key snapped in the ignition & no longer works. The garage say they can't fix it & I need a new one - £160 for an electronic one or £90 for a basic one. It needs to be chipped so it works in my car (Yaris)

Is there another way? I really don't have £160 to spend on a key.

Blimey.
I haven't a clue, but at least I now know why DH keeps screaming at me when I leave the key open and lob it on the floor when I come in.

It might be cheaper to get an auto locksmith out. Do you have another remote key? If so it may be possible to programme a remote key purchased from eBay. Having said that though the price you've been quoted sounds pretty standard I'm afraid!

Oh bugger! I do have another key which I'm now using but I want a spare. I'll look into eBay - a friend said the same thing so it may well be worth a look. If not, I'll have to fork out. I wondered if it'd be covered on my car insurance but it's not going to be worth making a claim for this.
