buying a car from a private seller - how to pay?

so, Ive paid a small cash deposit tonight and we've agreed that I'l collect the car tomorrow evening. I've just been on line to my bank and they no longer do bankers drafts.
If I transfer the funds to the seller tomorrow during banking hours and he is then conveniently not available for me to collect the car, I'm stuffed!

How do you do this safely?

Go to the bank yourself and withdraw the cash and use that when you go to collect the car. You don't say how much the car is but providing its not a huge amount the bank don't usually require much notice.
