Anyone had a Wickes or Portland Timber Conservatory?

We really need the space so looking to buy a wood conservatory.
Just wanted to see if there is anyone out there that has had any dealings with either portland timber conservatories direct or wickes - are they any good? both only do the diy option which means we're going to have to find someone to build foundations and fit it. We live in Devon if anyone can recommend someone
Thanks

I know someone who has put a wickes PVCU conservatory on every house he has lived in so far - 4, so I guess thats a good recommendation for wickes generally....

i prefer the design of the portland direct ones but don't know enough about them yet to make final decision

You could try searching "portland conservatory reviews" in Google to see if anyone has written anything about them. Thats what I do when I want to check out a firm. If that brings back too many, chuck the word "timber" in as well....

oh thanks MaryBS - I'm off to follow your advice. Never thought to type 'review' in as I'm still scared of computers and just so grateful when i can get on mumsnet and the evil ebay!

I've been searching and can't find anything - can anyone tell me of a definative website that covers reviews?

www.comparestoreprices.co.uk compares prices but also has reviews, but only if people have entered them for a particular product.

This is a good website for researching conservatories - there may be something on there:

www.conservatoriesonline.com/

www.reviewcentre.com has been helpful on lots of occasions, but they don't seem to have anything on Portland.
I couldn't find any other opinion on it, sorry!

We had a Wickes wooden conservatory on our other house and it was fab. Bought it when they had a sale on around October time iirc, and bought it for £6k instead of £10k, and we had free blinds thrown in too. It was lovely. HIghly recommend them.
