I love my Golf but I think we need something bigger - what do you recommend?

I have a v tall DH and soon to be 2 DCs, DC1 may still be rear facing when DC2 is born. At present, due to DH height, we have the rf seat behind the passenger seat, as it can't fit behind DH if he drives. If I drive DH has to sit in the back as he can't fit in the passenger seat in front of the rf seat.

So two rf seats in the Golf would obviously be a bit of a problem leaving no leg room for DH. We probably need a bit more room in any case for more luggage, space for the kids to grow up etc.

So - what I want is a car that has plenty of space between the front and back seats. I think that rules out the VW Touran, which otherwise I think I would like. Don't particularly want to go for a 4x4 or people carrier yet. Despite what I said previously I would also like a car as short as poss, so I can park in small spaces.

So apart from a Tardis - anything that would suit?

Golf Plus?
Golf Estate ?
Skoda Octavia - we have had several, also tall DH (6'3" ish) and 2 DC. The TDi is very, very economical.

Octavia comes as an estate or saloon.
Leaving VAG cars behind, Ford CMax? I had one of these on hire for a few weeks and loved it.
