Is it too late for me to get a refund at Mothercare ?

I had this sheepskin jacket and top bought for my lo from my m-in-law. He won't wear it, bought for Christmas. Still has tags on, do you think it is too late for me to take it into Mothercare at the weekend and get an exchange or vouchers ? Are they still accepting these items now. Cost £22 and don't want it left in wardrobe unused.

I don't see why not but they might not give you full price back IYSWIM. Even if they have the tags on. Any chance you could get the receipt?

poppy101 · 26/01/2006 13:22

No, my m-in-law, never gives me the receipt and destroys them straight away, feel bad as I should put lo in it, but lo has so many other coats etc. M-in-law keeps buying clothes I have taken so many back previously, might give the store a call first.

Yeah I would.

They may give you full amount back but will be in gift vouchers or to exchange for something else.

tassis · 26/01/2006 13:23

I'd say you'll get vouchers or an exchange for whatever it was reduced to in the sale.

if there is nothing wrong with it then technically they don't have to do anything at all.

BUT, i think it's likely that they will offer you vouchers/exchange but you'll only get the last price it sold for

i used to wprk in a shop b4 children. they can say no but u are entiltled to the curent selling price in vouchers if nothing else. even with a reciept it will prob be out of date. they don't have to give u the £22 either if it went in the sale at £3.50 thats all they will give you

sorry mofm btui legally poppy isn't entitled to anything. Partly because the original contract was made with MIL not her, although there may be special circumstances for gifts, and ther eis no receipt and partly as refund policies are discretionary in all but specific quality and safety issues.

Poppy, if you are lucky and it hasn't been reduced you may get the full amount , or the reduced price if in the sale, but most probably in vouchers or exchange, out of goodwill. I'm afraid it is down to the shop manager's discretion at the end of the day, but worth a go.

I might try and take it in to my local store at the weekend and try. If not I might pop it into the next NCT sale. Someone might be interested in a new coat. Thanks for all your advice
