Baby carrier (back) for 9-12 month old

My nanny has just requested that we purchase a baby carrier so she can carry our now 8 month old on her back while our almost 3 year old sleeps inhis pram whilst they are out... Personally, I don't think she really wants to carry such a carrier around with her on public transport. But,I said I'd consider it.

So, has anyone done this? A 9-12 month old on your back whilst you push an older one in a pram? Has it worked out? For the carrier, do you need one with a metal phrame, or is there a soft construction variety for this age group?

there is a soft one... i was looking at the mumsnet reviews just yesterday and the ergo baby carrier came out 3rd... that is soft and goes on the back

i don't think it'd be great on public transport ythough, because you wouldn't be able to sit down!

Not tried it with two but will be doing eventually, I'd recommend one that stands up on its own (the frame sort) as easier to load kid into then get on your back!! saw a nice one in toys r us the other day in fact, complete with raincover!
