Is this a weird or wonderful present for a 6 year old boy?? Your verdict please....

DS1 (also 6) is going to a friend's party next weekend. We were in IKEA last week and bought our two boys (6 & 3) one of these each:

'Spook' glowing light

They don't really seem like lights - more like a rubbery toy/ torch sort of thing really.
DS1 loves his - and because it's rechargeable, he's been carrying it around the house, playing with it under his duvet at bedtime etc, hiding in cupboards with it etc etc.

I also bought another couple of them at the same time, thinking they might be good for presents, but now I'm wondering if people might think it's a bit of a weird gift??

it's pretty funky!

Nbg · 21/01/2006 15:11

No it's a great idea. Something different to toys or pyjamas.

Yes, it's great.

I'd absolutelyl love it if someone bought this for my four year old son.

Brilliant - my kids would all love them. Ds1 (8) loves lights of all sorts, and ds2(3) is obsessing about torches at the moment, so this would be an ideal present for both of them. We also have a glow in the dark duplo ghost who comes on holiday with us called the family ghost (but perhaps we are a bit weird.. )

vickiyumyum · 21/01/2006 15:23

it looks great, will have to look out for it next time i go to ikea, as ds2 would love it.

SoupDragon · 21/01/2006 15:37

DSs both have one each and love htem.

Wallace · 21/01/2006 15:42

Both weird and wonderful - I would be so chuffed if somebody gave ds one.

Mo2 · 21/01/2006 16:24

OK ! Well that seems fairly unanimous then!!

(Pity - I was quite looking forward to having one myself )

As RTKanga would say they're 'deffo brill' - highly recommend them if you're anywhere near IKEA!

Actually, I think the birthday child might be a bit taken aback when they open it as it's not immediately obvious what it is (and it's not Turtle/Rangers/Spiderman branded) but will appreciate it later.

PeachyClair · 21/01/2006 16:32

Excellent gift, DS1 (6) would adore this. good choice!

Good present I think. I bought dd a mini sparkly lava lamp for her birthday and all the children who saw them, including 9 yo and 12yo girls and 8 yo boys wanted them. Agree with Soupy, it might not get an immediate reaction but he will v likely like it imo.

PrincessPeaHead · 21/01/2006 17:36

cool. my ds has a mini disco light that he carries around the house in a sparkly fashion, he loves that too.. (he is 5)
