I have 4 kids and the 7 seater has died find that as they are older and get around more themselves the 7 seater is rarely driven full in fact as I work full time and dont do school runs it is usually driven empty. Was thinking of going for small car and then when needed all 6 of us to travel hiring a car on those rare ocassions anyone see any probs? could I negotiate frequent use rate with car hire co?

Zip cars? Don't know where abouts you are but they're great if you can access them.

Only issue I can see is that presumably when you do want to hire car you'll be going somewhere. When we hired 7 seater, we actually ended up with minibus because hire company wouldn't let us use our own roofbox for luggage on 7 seater. However, if you scan sort that out with chosen hire company beforehand, then buying smaller, more economical car would seem sensible. Smile
