I have just finished all my recently downloaded ones and need some more to keep me going over Christmas.

Thanks and Happy Christmas

Could still be 1222 by Anne Holt. Classic "locked room" murder mystery set in a snow bound hotel on the Oslo Bergen railway.

Or possibly The Penal Colony but that's a bit raw and violent- but the plot probably did need it rather that being gratuitous.

Pippaandpolly · 24/12/2011 20:21

I've only had my kindle for 5 days but I just read Dark Matter on it and it was brilliant-a proper old fashioned ghost story and terrifying to boot.

thelennox · 24/12/2011 20:23

The hunger games trilogy. Downloaded the first one on a Monday, next one on Tuesday and had them all finished by Thursday. Excellent!

CMOTdibbler · 24/12/2011 20:23

I still haven't finished the Penal Colony - its a bit graphic for me.

The Emperor of all Maladies is a great factual book that I couldn't put down.

I am a fan of random free books though - I go through the bestsellers and give all sorts a try

Theas18 · 24/12/2011 20:30

CMO agree the penal colony is a bit grim, don't try if sensitive.

1222 isn't really graphic or anything, more along the lines of a scandanavian agatha christie but up to date.

WAtch the free books and download if you fancy something, don't wait as they can and do go from free to chargeable at random.

Keep an eye on the "kindle deal of the day" (usually 99p) too.

Shoshe · 24/12/2011 20:49

2nd the Hunger Games Trilogy. Brilliant

DingDongFruitShootsMakeYouHigh · 24/12/2011 21:07

Ok I have bought 1222, the Hunger Games (I hope I've got the first one first!) and also The Penal Colony as it was free, and a couple of other cheapies

Some look quite different from my normal chick lit reading and should keep me going for a few weeks!

Thanks everyone

I've only had my kindle a few weeks but I enjoyed The Picture of Dorian Gray (one of the free ones) and Wicked by Gregory Maguire was ... okay... not brilliant but fine.

Can you buy Kindle books for others? I want to get some for my DH. I got him a Kindle for Xmas.

SweetTheSting · 24/12/2011 21:22

Hi FFS you can only buy specific Kindle books to gift if you are in the US. The UK doesn't have that functionality yet.

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 24/12/2011 21:26

The Help - Kathryn Stockett.
Elegant gathering of white snows - Kris Radish
You can buy vouchers for a Kindle but not specific books. Just had this problem with MIL.

FootballFriendSays · 25/12/2011 15:16

Thanks for the replies. Seems quite backwards/old fashioned but they'll catch up eventually. My DH loves his Kindle (I gave it to him a few days ago).

FootballFriendSays · 25/12/2011 15:16

Happy Christmas!
