without it showing up on the PC? I don't want to download stuff on to it and then find when DH next turns on the PC it has some sort of kindle programme in start up or any other way he might spot I've got him one?

hi - i did this for dd, and set up an account for her with amazon - the only thing i did realise was that as i had used her email address (for future thought would be easier) i had to go in to her email account and delete the emails!
its v easy.

roundcornsilkvirgin · 20/12/2011 10:29

but why won't he going to choose his own books for it? Confused

grumpypants - So does nothing show up on the PC to show you've connected it?
cornsilk - I just meant I wanted to put a few books on it for when he gets it first (we'll be away for Christmas so no chance to set it up himself until we get home again).

oh okay - if you know what he likes then that's a good idea I suppose! Mine is linked to my amazon account and when I download a book Amazon send me an email. Would he see that?

ksld · 20/12/2011 10:39

No, have had to open my own amazon account to buy it in the first place because they send so many emails about everything you buy from them you can't keep anything a secret. Thought I would download a copy of Treasure Island as he is currently reading that and his copy is quite dog-eared.

the onlt thing is that you need to set up a card to access the downloads, incl the free stuff. i used mine, obv and must remember to change it to dds after she has opened it. plus, amazon do send emails to her suggesting stuff, so i have to keep checking her emails and deleting them!

roundcornsilkvirgin · 20/12/2011 10:41

good plan! I love my kindle - dh bought me one for my b.day.

Geordieminx · 20/12/2011 10:50

I send books straight from amazon to my iPad/kindle just by purchasing them. You'll need to register it with an email address though

Hopstheduck · 20/12/2011 11:04

Did you not get him the 3g version? with the 3g version he could download books from anywhere. The problem is that the kindle will then be linked to your amazon account rather than his. So whenever he wants to buy books he would then have to use your account

grumpypants · 20/12/2011 15:02

I didn't get the 3g version due to the cost! I know i'm not the op, but maybe she did likewise? Surely you can change the account it's linked to - i just did that with itunes for an ipod.

Hopstheduck · 20/12/2011 15:26

you can, but Im sure you then lose the books on it, but I might be wrong
