Thinking of getting DH a kindle for Christmas, please give advice to a complete e-reader virgin!

Hi I am thinking of getting Dh a kindle for christmas. I have looked at the 3 available in Tesco and think I would get him the 3GS one as he is total gadget freak and would buy the most expensive one if he was choosing as I am guessing that is the one that does the most?
I do not have a clue about kindles, are they any good? DH has the book reading app on his iphone so would I be wasting my time getting him one? Do they come with books uploaded on already or will he have to do it himself? If he has to do it himself will he have to pay for books and if so could I get him a gift voucher to buy them with? Does it need charging before he can use it?
Sorry for all the questions but as I said in my title I am a complete e-reader virgin! Thanks for your help

1. Get the 3GS one as then he doesn't need a wireless connection to download books.

2. He can sync his kindle with his app so he can start a book on his kindle & continue on his phone. It's really good for when you get a spare 5 minutes.

3. it doesn't come pre loaded with books. There are hundreds of classics (brontes, Austen, Dickens etc) for free but even best sellers are only £4-5. You can gift him Amazon e voucher which will be emailed to him. You get a code which he can apply to his Amazon account & any purchases come off that.

4. It will need charging but its only a few hours. Full recharge in 3 hours I believe.

5. Enjoy the kindle! Got mine earlier this year & I love it so much. Feel free to post any more questions here & I'll keep checking back.

Definitely 3G I love being able to download wherever I am. I love my kindle soooo much I even listen to it while I am driving. Dd wants one for Christmas but wants new kindle as not as big.

I listen to mine while I'm driving as well Babe. Sometimes text-to-speach and sometimes and Audible book. Am listening to David Sedaris at the moment and laughing .
