Which specs are trendy? I finally need reading glasses....

After having "perfect" eyesight all my life I have finally been told by the optician that I need glasses for close reading

I hadn't noticed it before she told me but now I've realised I'm squinting at very small print so I've decided to give in

Which specs are trendy given that I want to look intelligent and am old

IMO, you need to look at what frame suits your face shape rather than what frame shape is trendy. Whenever I've looked at 'trendy' specs they have looked awful on me. I picked up a pair that didn't look 'trendy' on the shelf, but actually looked pretty stylish on. TRy a few pairs on and take an honest person with you, so that they can tell you how the specs really look.

I have rimless specs. I really don't like being speccy but am too squeamish to wear contacts. I go to specsavers (!) and they have a good range and helpful assistants.

NdP is abolutely right about getting something that suits you. Also, if you are not wearing all the time, good frames can last you a while so take your time and get something you like.

Black frames might make me look like Jenny Eclair

People who will give their honest opinions, that'll be dh and dd then....I'll be lucky if I fine anything they like on me!

I don't fancy the idea of contacts (although my db has worn them for decades) so it'll be face furniture for me, but as I'll only need to wear them when I'm looking at the small print, she says hopefully

I had my peripheral vision tested for the first time and I saw all the dots apparently so I can see behind me

I found that grey metal ones looked best on me so they're the ones I've ordered, they make me look very intelligent (dh says "stern" - he wishes)
