Have got the kids the first 2 issues of Funny Bones and was going to ask my local shop to order it weekly but if I subscribe we will get a cdrom, watch and other stuff so was wondering if anyone else has done this and how it worked out ?

I had an order for a magazine from d'Agostini, they were pretty reliable (although I had to chase them up a time or two when the mag didn't turn up). I set mine up as a direct debit, but my sister had one for a while, and they invoiced her with the magazine and she paid by cheque.

My only word of warning would be that it gets to be really expensive, and to add to that, when the magazine I subscribed to finished, they automatically started sending me a second series that I hadn't known about before. It took a couple of months before I was able to stop the second series of mags coming.

Right ok, thanks for the warning.

I have subscribed and chosen to pay by DD. Will keep an eye on it though to see exactly when and what i'm charged.

Not sure if they are DeAgostini, but we have Horrible Science and Tracey Beaker, and intend to subscribe to the new Roald Dahl mag as well. Both the first two have been fine, no probs with the sub, and got all the free gifts.

Some years ago we subscribed to Horrible Histories which folded after a few issues, but we were fully refunded, lost nothing. This kind of mag does tend to fold, but if you get your money back, so what? In the past we had Rugrats Round the World which was fine as well, it ran and ran, no probs.

As you can tell, I like these mags, it keeps the kids usefully occupied, they arrive as treats on a regular basis, and the kids do read them. And they can be cut up for project work when finished with.

There have been loads that they wanted to subscribe to, and i've always said no, but they both seemed really interested in this one, and i though it might come in handy for me for college too LOL.

Not to mention the fact that one of the free gifts is a personal cd player, which just so happens to be on Dd2's birthday list

Dh subscribed to Deagostini last year and got the complete carry on films on dvd.We didn't have too many problems with them and as we subscribed,we got a couple of freebies thrown in too.Ds paided for his dvd's monthly by direct debit and was told there was no commitment and could've cancelled at any time.
I would happily do the same again and their call centre in south africa are also very friendly.hth

i would never subscribe to de agostini again. cancelled the magazine and paid everything up to date. noticed on my credit card statement about 2 months later that they had taken £13 out of my account without telling or asking me! i didn't owe anything and called them. they said they would give me a refund but a year on i have given up. this is after loads of phone calls and being told that they had it in payment dept and were just waiting on a chq to be sent to me!!

flamesparrow · 20/09/2005 18:07

DH did LOTR models with them for a while, and had no problems. No problem with cancelling either.

jayzmummy · 20/09/2005 18:09

We have had problems with money being taken from our account after we have cancelled the subscription. Also them not sending the magazines out and then getting three in one go....no free gifts sent either.
