long term poster but NC for this post. Wife and I have always been very open in conversations but she recently asked if I had any secrets that I’ve never told her about and she said she’s always wanted to tell me but never knew how I’d react and I was pretty confident nothing could shock me about her but this has really thrown me 😂. She said when she was early 20’s she was out one night and bumped into someone quite a few years older than her that is extremely close to her family and after a few drinks in a bar he suggested going back to hers which she said yes to and carried on drinking, anyway one thing lead to another and ended up sleeping together and said it was great and on a few more occasions they bumped into each other and it happened but she soon realised how wrong it was and they stopped. I’ve never met the person and he is completely out of her families life now, normally I wouldn’t be bothered about but because of dynamic of who it was it’s made me think that was weird and she’s said she now thinks the same but at the time she didn’t see it as an issue.

Depends who it was.

I think so long as it was consensual on your wife's part (which by the sounds of it, it was), then try not to dwell on it. It's obviously been playing on your wife's mind, as she wanted to share it with you. Maybe it's because of who it was and she's carrying some shame/guilt because of that. She's also not the same woman today, so she will be looking back on that experience through a different lens and perhaps beating herself up about it. Whereas, in her 20s, it would have been an exciting experience. Realising it was wrong is more likely the worry about what other people would think and fear of judgement. It is not wrong if both were consenting adults and there was no coercion or threat.

Thats a tame secret in my opinion and is completely irrelevant as the person isn't even in touch with the family anymore. Who cares!!!

FieryA · 18/09/2026 13:38

You are making an issue out of nothing and unnecessarily guilting your wife too. He could have been a family friend. Anyway, does it really matter? He is not even in your lives now.

Bushwoolie · 18/09/2026 13:39

Unless it was actually her brother, or similar I'm confused what the issue is?

Gollumm · 18/09/2026 13:44

so what’s the problem?

OneTake · 18/09/2026 14:22

And?

OnlyHasEyesForLoki · 18/09/2026 16:43

Consensual. Before your relationship. The person isn’t in her or her family’s life anymore. So what? I hope you aren’t guilting her about it!

That is a beautifully balanced reply for the Sex board.

Was he a relative or a close family friend OP?

Assuming he was her parent's age so are you concerned there was some sort of power imbalance?
Why is she telling you now?
She might not regret it at all or she might be feeling that although looking back she thought it was 'great', there's something about it that doesn't feel right?

mbonfield · 18/09/2026 19:51

As it was some time ago maybe best forgotten

Thorninhisside · 18/09/2026 21:51

It wasn't Boris Johnson, was it?

Bigreddog25 · 19/09/2026 06:12

The most important detail to this story is who he was, and it's missing.

What's the point in this??

Two consenting adults had sex many years ago. Wow what a secret.

OK, thanks for explaining!

Boomer55 · 23/09/2026 17:18

I’m sure many of us did not so wise things when we were young. 🤐

Assuming he was not an actual blood relative, I’m not sure why it concerns her now, or you, at all. 🤷‍♀️

Gollumm · 26/09/2026 21:44

Are you going to come back and explain why this threw you? And what the issue seems to be?
