Have I never realised how lucky we are?

DH and I have been together 35 years since late teens. Have 3 grown up kids.

We only have sex about once a week now (mid 50s) and post menopause I don't always orgasm from PIV.

However for the first 30 years of our relationship we had simultaneous orgasms about 90-95 percent of the time, from PIV, mostly by being attuned to each other - he slows right down to let me catch up, for example.

I never thought we had a particularly amazing sex life but reading info that wasn't readily available back in 1990 when we met, I had no idea most women don't reach orgasm from PIV. We are very vanilla too - 3 positions mainly, never done anal or used toys. But we just seemed to work together.

Is this really unusual?

ETA - I don't have much comparison either. I only slept with one other guy about 15 times before DH. DH was definitely the better of the 2!

Statistically I'd say yes. But amazing that you found someone that you had those moments with and you were able to see what good sex was.
I hang on to the fact that most women don't orgasm through PIV as I sure don't, well haven't and as of yet have not had good sex.
I'm probably an anomaly as I've only orgasmed with a male present about 10 times in 20 years of sexual activity and I'm still hoping to find a man who a) makes the effort and wants me to get there and b) I am able to let myself go and be that vulnerable as there's a lot of wall to break down after this long and a lot of internal pressure (from myself not them, it's kind of a holy grail moment that I think is now too big)

That’s great, and sounds like you’ve had, and are still having, an amazing sex life!

However, whereas Simultaneous orgasms during PIV sex may be good, I don’t think that is the main measure of a great sex life.

I’d say I have a great and satisfying sex life even though we don’t tend to orgasm simultaneously, and often not from PIV… also, if you’re not orgasming when your other half is, you can enjoy their orgasm rather than being caught up in your own!
