Have I had chlamydia this whole time?

Hi everyone , please be kind and don’t judge as I’m very embarrassed.

I tested positive for chlamydia 5 years ago and was prescribed doxycycline, I believe this was a 7 day course (2x a day) , after I took the very first tablet I felt extremely unwell and puked so I never took another tablet again so really I never treated the chlamydia. Throughout the years since testing positive with chlamydia I’ve had issues with thrush & UTIs as well as pain during sex, I’ve had 2 further std tests since testing positive and they’ve came back negative which is surprising as I never treated it the first time.

I started seeing someone new 2 months ago (things have now ended) but soon after we started having sex I had what I thought was a uti and thrush at the same time , I done an std test and it’s come back that I have chlamydia. I start my antibiotics tomorrow which is again doxycycline, I’m going to make sure to eat before I take them to avoid nasty side affects.

is it likely I’ve had the chlamydia this whole time?

I suppose the question is, have you had unprotected sex since having tested for chlamydia the first time? If you have then I would think the most likely scenario is that you have caught it again.

You need to tell your GP you react badly to doxycycline. (I do.) There are alternatives.

Azithromycin perhaps
