Strong fishy smell after intercorse with new partner

Hi, im looking for some advice over what is causing this problem.
I have been seeing a man for a few months now. I have noticed a very strong , fishy smell in my vagina after every time I have sex with him!

I've never had anything like this before.

I am super hygienic and shower before and after sex. He is the same.
The smell can last for up to 5 days after.
I shower daily , fresh underwear etc

It's driving me a bit mad as by the time it seems to disappear again and I'm back to "normal" we then see each other and have sex again and the smell is back!

It's starting to make me dread sex with him.

Other than this issue , he is an amazing guy and we have a fantastic sex life

Does he come inside you? It sounds like it could be bv but wierd it clears up without treatment?

I still have the smell whether he does or not.
Do I get tested for bv then? I'm a bit naive as this is the first man I have slept with since my divorce over a year ago. I was married to the same man for 15 years . I've never had an sti

I’m not sure about testing tbh but you can buy over the counter meds made by Canesten ( pessaries) or order from Amazon … Google up bv to help identify your symptoms.

I’d get tested so that you know for sure what is causing it. You may need antibiotics.

Are you on hrt? I noticed my vaginal smell changes now post sex depending on where I am in my cycle. Some days it can be so strong I can smell myself at work 😳

This is interesting! Yes I am. Funnily enough I thought it coincided with me using estradoil, but though no can't be. Maybe it's that!

Very much sounds like BV. It doesn't clear up as such but settles down after a few days without sex. Then sex exacerbates it again. Best to have a GP visit for a swab and then will likely need antibiotics. The likes of the canesten products are only to restore pH, but I'm guessing if it's persistent you'll need the antibiotics. They usually give a course of Flagyl. It's very common and don't worry, not a hygiene issue, but an overgrowth of normal vaginal bacteria.
The other thing to consider is that men can carry it and in some cases need treatment themselves if they're passing it back to you.

You can buy BV test kits and treatment in most big supermarkets
It's not technically an STI but if you have it and sexually active it can get passed on in the same way thrush can x
