Hi all, Newly Divorced and looking to get back out there but just seems a waste of time been on numerous online dating sites and all you get are bots trying to get more cash from you, So after advise on where people have had some luck?

I’ve never used them but I hear that Tinder and Bumble are the only ones worth using really.

I'm in a new relationship after separating from my wife, and that is very much thanks to an online dating site (match.com in my case).

There are several clever things to do:

  • choose your site depending on what you want. Tinder and bumble, recommended by PPs, focus on young people, and on casual relationships as far as I can tell; match which I used is more focused on longer-term. Some sites are know for "discretion" (iow cheating your partner! But also if you're not long separated and want to avoid publicising your love life). Look for something that corresponds to you.
  • be very direct and open in the "blurb" you write.
  • Yes, there are fake accounts and bots. You could write in your self-description something about not enjoying that, and warning your readers to expect weird questions to prove they are human.

My own experience is good in the end though :)

Good to hear it works out, Basically I'm just looking for a good time but not with multiple people after a long virtually sex starved marriage I'm just looking to enjoy myself again so will have a look around thanks.

If you wish for fun and a fwb, then Feeld might be what you're looking for. Similar to a swiping dating app, so you won't get random messages from men.

What part of the country are you in?

I know (middle aged) people who have met by Bumble and Match. In contrast, I've had zero luck with several. I think it's probably down to how you use them.

I did give up. It's crap. I hate it. And I'm apparently not very good at it. But I'm considering going back, just with a different approach.
For me, I think the key is to forget it's "dating", but rather just a way to try to have conversations with people I don't know. A bit like seeing someone across a night club and thinking Phwoar, except you now know a bit more about them. Meeting for coffee the next day, and deciding whether you want to date them, is probably still the same as it ever was.

AverageGuy · 22/08/2024 12:40

@MyBlueMentor any dating app can be used to find casual dates - as a PP has said, just be open about what you are looking for in your profile.

However, where you live can have a huge affect on the available "pool" of likely candidates..

And it's an absolute minefield.. Have a look at the Dating thread to get some idea of what people face...

I love your honesty in the way you said you just want a good time. Perhaps we can get together sometime. On a more serious note in my opinion Shagalam or Wickedslam are great options for quick in person hookups.

Thanks for your response and recommendations, Maybe we could, It would take away this minefield I'm trying atm

Tinder is good for casual sex. I was shagging left, right and centre after lockdown thanks to it.

Lucky you all I get is bots and time wasters on it and messages about upgrading

Lol I have hands full at the moment

@MyBlueMentor Stick at it, and maybe expand your use of dating apps. If you are really desperate, I'm at the other end of the country 😂You could risk Fabswingers... It's definitely NOT for the fainthearted.. The best way to use it is to block everybody, and then look for, and contact people that take your fancy.

I used Bumble and Match - had a lot of fun c/o those two sites. Hinge was rubbish!
