UTI after sex

Sorry to kill the mood 😂

Lately I feel as if I get a UTI within hours of sex. We use condoms but no lube - not necessary.

anything that will prevent this? No idea why it's happening suddenly.

Do you make sure you go for a wee after sex?

Bananas1350 · 23/07/2023 19:56

Make sure u go for a wee before and straight after. If it’s feeling like this maybe a shower after would help. If not I would go to the doctors to see if they can help.

Yes. Going before seems like it would ruin the moment! I wonder why it’s happening suddenly. Only lasts a few hours then I’m fine

How old are you? Can be a perimenopause symptom

48

I did wonder this but if we don't need lube, why would this be a problem? I don't have any symptoms of peri really.

on reflection, today I noticed about 7am, drank lots of water and was fine by late afternoon. So does that count as a brief UTI? It's uncomfortable and annoying rather than painful.

It's worth looking into - vaginal atrophy can cause it. Or the lack of oestrogen can cause thinning of the vagina and uretha walls making them more susceptible to bacteria.
HRT or vaginal oestrogen will help.

Ah, okay, thank you.

I've been having this!! Literally the next day and it was gone withing 12 hours but uncomfortable for a good few hours. I'm 36 and been having some issues, query VA

GingerAle1 · 23/07/2023 22:06

Just looking at VA - no symptoms whatsoever fit that description. Unless it's a very early sign?

thinking about it, it's not happening every time and it's short lived.

The supplement D mannose can help prevent UTIs - it was recommended to me by a urologist. He also spotted, though, that my regular UTIs were one of my first symptoms of peri and topical oestrogen has helped a lot.

reading more, it looks like lube helps even though I thought we didn't "need" lube. Or there are moisturisers. Anyone used moisturisers?

Looks like Boots won't give hormone creams unless you're over 50.

Have a chat with your GP - they should be able to prescribe either HRT or vaginal oestrogen. (And buy a prepayment certificate for HRT - will save you on charges)

YesYesYes lubes and moisturisers are good and available off the shelf.

And have a look on the menopause thread - there should be a fair bit of advice on there whether you decide to go for HRT or not.

I get this op, it drives me mad as it's so annoying. I put loads of lemon juice in water and it's gone within an hour
