Middle aged lingerie

Have just been looking at the recent where do you get lingerie thread. Some of the items linked to look fun and sexy ... if you've got the body of a 20 something lingerie model, and I know some brands are getting better at using more diverse bodies, but I'm struggling to feel confident about what really suits a middle aged body.
I know we're all different shapes and sizes, but I think it's fair to say age has fairly predictable effects, especially for those who can't spend all day doing situps and stepmaster sessions.
I'm very much window shopping at the moment (frustratingly single!) but any thoughts on styles for the average 50 something?

I’m 45 and a size 18, I love Playful Promises. There’s the option on the website to choose a slim or plus sized woman to model the underwear. I use Boobydoo (I love the name) for reinforced, scaffolding like sports bras, but all my other underwear is gorgeous, lace, satin, whatever I fancy. It makes me feel wonderful, I don’t wear it for my partner, it’s my everyday luxury.

PP do gorgeous basques and suspenders too, which I do put on for DP! I love Lovehoney too for boudoir lingerie.

The average 50 something is what size?

I'm 45 and slim, but still prefer something to cover tummy. Open breast bodice is nice, or a 'waspie'. Then some sussies.

Anxiodogo · 16/04/2023 17:19

OK the models are 20 somethings, but these are lovely looks for a bit more flattering

I have wasted quite a bit of money on some terrible lingerie, which has done nothing for me, and I've been too embarrassed to wear it. I bought a fullbody stocking from Lovehoney which was suggested for me - there was no way that I would have chosen it for myself. I love it and feel amazing in it! It covers me (but doesn't!) from neck to toes and can be worn over or under the breasts depending on how warm I'm feeling 😊

I'm in my 40s, I wear what I would describe as "nice" and "stylish" lingerie as opposed to "sexy".

I've never been one for dressing up for the bedroom in as much as I want something that is both practical and pretty and can be worn day today. That said, I want to feel good and confident about myself when I'm getting undressed with someone.

I always buy a new pair of matching knix when I but a new bra. Plus I don't ever do white (reminds me of school) or beige (makes my boobs and crotch look as if they are made of cardboard!), it's just not me. I don't always match underneath it all, but I do try and wear things that go together. I supplement the matching knix with various styles, especially the Brazillians from M&S.

Go to shops are John Lewis, M&S and Bravisomo (I'm a 36F cup) and I think you will find most practical and comfortable styles there OP with a touch of lace.

I'm an old fashioned girl and wear stockings and suspenders quite a lot on a day to day basis. Mainly in spring and autumn; between the opaque and bare leg seasons. Stockings get a bad press and a sleazy reputation, but my grandmother wore them day to day remember! Lots of suspender belts are made for the bedroom and are pretty useless. For me Fantasie offer the proper functional quality and are very comfy.

@Mermaidparades what's the quality like on Playful Promises? Prices look good.
@Anxiodogo Luckily size is still 12-14, but at 50+, things aren't either where they used to be, the same shape, or as toned as they were 30yrs ago. I'm perfectly at ease with that, but there are times when its nice to have sonething that makes you firget that. 🤣 I do like the pics you posed, and they look great on the 20 something. I'm not convinced they'd tick all the boxes but out of curiosity, where are they from?
@MovingonfromMartin Body stockings aren't something I'd ever considered. Do they actually look / feel sexy on real wpmen? Aren't they hassle getting in and out of, especially ... um ... in a hurry? 😉
@StarlightLady I completely agree on comfort, as well as the practicalities of stockings. Hell, my mother used to wear them with a Platex girdle - possibly the least sexy item on the planet. 🤣
I guess I'm hoping to find something that will feel and look sexy, even a little more than sexy for weekends away, whilst being flattering for someone of my age.

I feel just brilliant in my body stocking, even when I'm standing up!

Ehem..... it's crotchless. No need to get out of it @Estherpologist

I’ve found the quality great so far. No issues with sizing or loose stitching etc.I don’t bother hand washing my lingerie, just put them into a net garment bag and throw them in with my normal laundry. They’ve survived!

Anxiodogo · 17/04/2023 17:10

Things i posted were from Maison Close.

In terms of bodystockings..... crotchless ones are great in a hurry! Look at Miss O Lingerie

AnneKipankitoo · 28/04/2023 13:26

It depends on what you mean by middle aged body. Everyone is different.
What suits you? What do you feel good in ?
For example… swimwear ? If a one piece suits you better try bodies from Primadonna, Rigby and Peller. They are not sold as erotic underwear but still look great.
How about a lace robe from Identity Lingerie?
If a pair of shoes or sandals improves the look of your legs factor that in.

Nice, stylish not 'sexy' try Gilly Hicks/Hollister.
I used to get 6 point suspender belt for all day wear from John Lewis, looking for new source with a wide belt.
Its always sexy when he slides his hand under your skirt and finds you have taken off your knix.
