Does semen volume reduce with age and does it matter anyway?

I've read in various places that semen volume (not talking about sperm here but the seminal fluid they swim in) declines with age. I've not noticed any drop-off yet (I'm 56) but just wondered if (a) other men have experienced this and does it have any effect on self-confidence etc? and (b) if it bothers women at all?

DW has never really commented much about it either when it's been very copious or when its been less so and I'm thinking women are a lot less bothered about it in terms of sexual enjoyment than men? I ask just to prepare for any volume reduction changes (!) which may/may not come my way over the next few years.

Probably like a lot of men I'm quite pleased with the amount of semen I sometimes produce (yes, daft I know) but at the stage I am in life now I sometimes get to thinking a bit about what the realities of older age may bring along physically - not just in terms of sex - and how to learn to accept and adjust.

I'm 58. Volume varies a little depending on how long since my last ejaculation but overall seems unchanged since I was 20.....

When I've been with men in their twenties, they've always been heavy cummers. I've had sex with a few 40+ men and have been a bit disappointed with the meagre quantities of cum produced. Don't have experience of any other age group.

Size of a man's load is definitely something I notice and appreciate, but it's not a deal-breaker for me if he's otherwise sexy, good in bed, etc. Probably most other women wouldn't care at all, I'm just really into cum, facials, etc.

I've never really placed any value on the amount. In fairness, less is better... less mess!

mags1862 · 13/01/2023 19:52

my DH produces far less at the age of 66 , I and he are grateful for this ,I now happily let him cum in my mouth which he enjoys rather than stopping short .

Trust me women don’t notice or care about the volume - well I certainly don’t.

Hijinks75 · 13/01/2023 21:34

It’s a known fact that recovery rate, I.e how quickly you can cum again increases with age, not sure how much you cum alters though

AbsolutePixels · 13/01/2023 22:18

I think the taste changes with age. I've found young men's cum to be really pungent whereas older men's is quite mild and inoffensive.

I've not noticed a reduction. What makes the difference is a) when he last came and b) a combination of how aroused he is and the build up. If we have a long build up and he is very aroused there is an awful lot

notHarryagain · 14/01/2023 17:20

tbh post 50 it's sensitivity, maintaining an erection and the length of time it takes to cum which are much more if an issue

Iloveabaconbutty · 14/01/2023 20:23

@notHarryagain I certainly can relate to this. Especially the odd unreliable erection! Occasional Viagra and more recently Cialis have recently become my much valued and effective assistants here.

But remember, it's not a make or break factor in sexual pleasure. It's all about enjoying the moment and connecting with your partner.

@JordanSutton Of course, that's entirely right. I agree. And I try and drink lots of water, take regular exercise and moderate alcohol intake for general health reasons anyway.

I guess I'm just not entirely enjoying the prospect of getting older and this possibility (inconsequential as it is) being added to the list of various physical indicators reminding me that I'm not as young as I once was!

I find it depends on how long its been between emission, and excitement level. If it's been a while, or I'm very excited, then the volume is higher / more than if I had sex yesterday.

sweeperjoe · 31/01/2023 11:46

I'm 60 and male.

Mine started to change at about age 57. It is not just about the volume per ejaculation - it is more about the "recharging" time.
Up until my early 50s, I could ejaculate twice in 24h - no problem but in the last few years, not possible. I need 24h to refill and have enought to ejaculate (I can get an erection an hour after but I'll be running on empty).
Lower volume does not affect pleasure and is not really noticable unless I use a condom (when I always check my amount) or masturbating (less mess is a positive). My wife says she can't tell the difference and she says that the amount that comes out after intercourse feels no different.
I did go ejaculation free for about 3 weeks when I had covid and used a condom for the first intercourse after that - massive amount. I think this is the longest no cum period I had had since puberty and the orgasm I got was very intense and long.
We have sex more-or-less twice a week and I produce enought to get a lot of pleasure and I'm still buying bulk packs of rubber johnnies!
