Sex with a colleague

Have you ever had sex with a colleague, and if so, did you let other co-workers know.

I ask, strange one, we had a team meeting this morning and one of the team said she wanted to inform us that she and a guy from another department had met in a pub, (not a planned meeting, they just happened to be in the same pub at the same time) had several drinks and gone back to his and spent the night together.

She wanted to tell us before it became a rumour (none of us had heard anything) to let us know they were not planning a relationship but didn't regret it.

Is it a good idea to let others know.

Some years ago, a colleague and I went back to hers after a Christmas night out and everyone knew, and it created a strange atmosphere. Some weren't happy and some treated as a big joke and spoke and jested about it often.

Another time I had a brief fling with a woman from where I worked, and nobody knew and that just worked out fine.

Well she was certainly brave! The company I worked for didn't actively discourage work relationships but made it clear that inappropriate behaviour in the office (snogging etc) would be frowned upon although despite this love often blossomed. As a general rule I would say tread very carefully as if it goes wrong it can make the work relationships very tricky.

Not someone I directly worked with but many years ago there was a guy who came to my place of work to do a course, I fancied him as soon as I saw him, it was lust at first sight, is that a thing? We eventually exchanged numbers and spent 6 months shagging. He then moved away after a job offer.

Weird to announce it!

But I've had sex with colleagues - no one else's business

SeaMills · 22/11/2022 19:36

Yes, regularly.

I’m married to him so I’m pretty sure most people have put two and two together by now.

Choconut · 22/11/2022 19:46

Announcing it to everyone is very weird and attention seeking. Much more likely to make things awkward than anything else you could do IMO.

Years ago in my early 20s I did. He was the only guy in an otherwise all female workplace. I told one person, by lunchtime the whole place knew about it and they banned us from working in the same room because apparently we were blatantly flirting. I don't think we were.

Fentylipgloss · 23/11/2022 18:11

I did when I was 16/17. My first ever (proper) boyfriend. We worked together for quite a while before it happened.

I only told one person (the girl I shared an office with), but at the Christmas party everyone found out.

I don’t think I’d be announcing it! But I respect her for doing that. I went on a date with a colleague last night, thankfully he’s moved to a different department as that could have been a bit weird but don’t think I’d want to tell everyone anyway. We are going on date 2!

lap90 · 24/11/2022 08:32

Never heard of people making a big announcement about it.

StarlightLady · 24/11/2022 12:07

I've had sex with distant colleagues (ie: with someone in a different location to me) over the years.

I suspect in this case someone they knew from work saw them. Therefore she has applied the logic that it's best to tell others before they tell you. That said, it is nothing to do with anyone else.

After my marriage ended I had a wild few months and went on a course with a colleague I really fancied and we ended up in bed together, highly disappointing if I’m honest and he became overtly clingy afterwards.

Did another course with another guy lol

dingdongdingdongsding · 26/11/2022 16:26

I never told. It was nice to have a secret

Bathtubbathing · 26/11/2022 17:35

My boss and I regularly snogged, then sexted when COVID hit. No one knew, but everyone could see the spark between us and thought we were secretly in a relationship.

I left the company and we finally dated for over a year. I remember lying in his arms after the first time we fucked and yelling "Finally!" It was so worth the 18 month build up.

Another2022 · 26/11/2022 18:13

I work with my gf in a small team of 6. We didn’t tell anyone and certainly didn’t make a big announcement but they figured it out when we went on holiday together back in June.

It’s a lot of fun and as long as we’re professional at work no one really cares!

rwalker · 27/11/2022 07:22

Suspect people have been gossiping top marks to her she’s completely shut it down

Angela59 · 27/11/2022 08:10

Has anyone done the dirty deed at work 😉
