Hi,

I'm about to get my Mirena coil out after having it for nearly 6 years. Anyone know how this feels??

I'm getting married in May and 100% don't want to get pregnant before that!

What is the best option for between now and May? Advice please 🙏🏻

I haven’t had one removed so I can’t comment on that but I think the options for contraception would be:

Combined pill - if you are able to take it - would have the benefit that you could run packs together for your wedding/honeymoon so you don’t have your period when you are away.

If you can’t take it then mini pill (the desogestrel version) would be reliable but can sometimes cause irregular bleeding.

Injection - reliable, less likely to cause irregular bleeding, can cause weight gain, may be a delay in return to fertility afterwards.

condoms - less reliable but no effect on cycle or return to fertility.

? get the coil again if it suited you

Can you have another coil fitted and removed after the wedding? Everyone is different. I got depressed on the pill. After I came off the pill I didn't get pregnant for 18 months. After child 1 i had a coil fitted. Coil came out, we used condoms. Pregnant in weeks . Good luck and congratulations on your wedding x
