Best way to delay period?

How can I delay my period? I’m going on vacation in a couple months and it fully clashes with my period. I’m happy to go back on the pill (I was on Cerelle until 18 months ago) as I’d like to be back on it for birth control reasons too (I’ve stupidly had to take plan B a few times recently) but it feels risky because I remember I still had a lot of bleeding for a whole year when I first went on Cerelle before. I don’t wanna start taking it and still end up bleeding on vacation.

Combined pill is not an option because it didn’t agree with me before. Can anyone recommend any other options?

Family planning or Gp or Pharmacy should offer the best advice.

The pill is your only option to delay a bleed.

No GP can prescribe norethistorone 5mg , 1 three times a day before expected period continue ,once stopped taking period should start with 2 to 3 days , this is a drug part of some oral contraceptives but can be used to postpone a period 😉.

I have taken norethisterone on a number of occasions. You can get it from GP or a private script from Superdrug etc. The last time I wanted it there was a shortage so I got an alternative- can't remember the name but the pharmacist will know. Works very well, just take a couple of days before period due, then stop when you want it to start. Resets whole cycle also.

medroxyprogesterone aka provera was the other one ..

Thank you @namechangesexboard , really helpful! Does it act as a contraceptive, or do you think because i started taking it so late in my cycle I’d be unlikely to get pregnant in that time anyway?

@MarshmallowX1983 it's def not a contraceptive... it's basically keeping your progesterone hormone high in the second half of your menstrual cycle. When the progesterone drops the period starts so it's just manipulating the hormone levels.

Don't leave it too late, it's out of stock everywhere near me and online. I'm in the NW

Yes the was my experience in august too - the medroxyprogesterone aka provera was the dupe my pharmacist suggested so I called the GP who changed the prescription.

That's good to know, did it work as well?

namechangesexboard · 10/09/2022 15:08

@Cigarettesaftersex1 yes it worked great. No side effects and period started maybe 2/3 days after I stopped taking it. Period was heavier/longer than normal but not much and I have found the same with norethisterone too.
