Braces and oral

Hello, I hope someone can help from experience.
For context, I am a 41 years old woman.

I am looking at having braces fitted. I'm not worried at all about the appearance of them. I would get the teeth-coloured ceramic ones, traditionally placed on the front of the teeth, but nothing else fitted across the roof of the mouth or tongue etc.

My concern is how this would affect my sex life, in particular the oral sex I give to my (male) partner.
I usually spend my time giving him oral and it's one of the most enjoyable parts of our sex life which we would not want to give up.

I know that teeth are not supposed to be involved in that kind of activity but I'm worried about him getting caught in the wires etc (ouch!!). I know there is a wax you can apply on top of the braces to smoothen the surface and lots of lubrication helps.

I am wondering if anyone has any experience in this respect?

Thank you!

Thanks. Did you get your teeth whitened afterwards? I'm not sure I'll need elastics.

I have read some horror stories online with images of blood stained bed sheets...not that I normally believe random internet stories but I'm finding it hard to imagine how skin doesn't get caught between those wires? Sorry to get into the details of it.

I haven't had the courage to ask this sort of questions to the orthodontist!

I've got them at the moment, approaching the end of my treatment. I've not had any problems at all in that regard as the brackets are on the outside of the teeth so it's fine. Eating is a bit tricky and I have to eat soft food on the first few days after each adjustment. There have been times of discomfort where using the wax helps ( you need to dry the teeth and bracket to make it stick) and bonjela helps if cuts occur. The only part of life it affects is eating ( and brushing/ flossing).

Thank you for your encouraging responses.

I can expect a range of discomforts, from the pain right after tightening , to eating and to how they might irritate the inside of the cheeks at times.

I know you have both said you had no problem sexually, but in particular...how about kissing?

I had braces a few years ago in my early forties and it was a great choice. I had the same thought that they'd be a bit clumsy but they weren't. Forget the wax it's awful and I'm sure you won't have an issue in bed.
