Contraceptive implant and menstrual cycle/libido

Had the contraceptive implant put in about 4 months ago after about 7 years of no contraception as I wasn't in a relationship or sexually active.

Prior to going on the implant, my cycle was very regular, quite bad cramps right before my period and I could track how my libido changed with the cycle. I also knew my period was coming the next day when I burst into tears for no apparent reason!

I have been on the implant before when I was younger and it stopped my periods. It hasn't done that this time and it's making me worried it's not working? It has altered my cycle in that the cramps have gone and my cycle is less regular. However I'm still getting a period every 4-6 weeks and my libido still seems to rise mid month and right before my period, which makes me worried I'm still ovulating. Am I worrying over nothing here, has anyone else experienced this? If it's relevant I'm 40 and have a high BMI but my GP didn't seem bothered by any of that.

I have had several implants and they have all had a slightly different effect. One stopped my periods completely, others I have had persistent annoying bleeding.

Even if you did ovulate the progestogen will make your cervical mucous hostile (I love that phrase) and prevent any pesky sperm getting anywhere near your egg.

the implant is one of the most effective forms of contraception going and the efficacy doesn’t seem to be affected by BMI
