Circumcision for tight foreskin at 46

DH has always had a tight foreskin. In hindsight we should have done something earlier but I was quite inexperienced when we met and thought it was normal. We’ve managed with viagra (as he tends to loose his erection probably because of lack of sensation) but recently it’s getting worse and he’s struggling to ejaculate and it’s getting difficult to keep clean. Anyone have experience of this and life after circumcision?

There might be options other than a full circumcision. GP might be best to ask what all the options are

I know a few people who've had this done in adult life and without exception it's been successful and enormously helpful not in terms of physical and psychological impact.

I will say recovery can be a bit uncomfortable & inconvenient but not much in the big scheme of things.

My DH suffered from this as did his brother in their 40s too,his brother went for the circumcision which went fine but my DH rubs olive oil in after every shower, after a week there was a vast improvement for him. Might be worth a try keeping it well oiled, it certainly relieved the tightness especially in the mornings he's right as rein now.

What has the doctor recommended?

My DH got circumcised as an adult. In the main his decision was a combination of it being an option for an admittedly minor issue, combined with him knowing that I really like circumcised so he had it done. He is really happy with it, loves knowing how much I like and compliment him on it.

He has a full and tight circumcision. There are different "styles". There are also specialist circumcision clinics which might be a better option as they are doing them all the time, but they tend to be private. However, from when DH researched it, they offered a variety of methods which made for a neater outcome and less recovery....the doctor used some sort of ring or cup on him and it just neatly took all the foreskin off. He was out of action for a few weeks but we had a celebratory night when he was ready!

Be prepared though that there is an anti circumcision sentiment on MN. In the end it's his choice

I had it done in my early 20s. Uncomfortable for a few weeks but then great after that. Best decision I made

My ex dh was circumcised in his 30's for the exact same reason.

It made him much more comfortable but did help with the losing erection issue

Had mine done around the same age for that same reason. Hurt like a mofo for a few days and every night time sleeping erection was very unpleasant, then was uncomfortable for a few weeks getting used to the sensation of no foreskin when wearing pants. After about three weeks was back to having sex, which was a different sensation so took a little time to "re-learn" what positions and friction worked. Masturbation took a while to work out without the foreskin to provide friction and sensation over the glans...

All in all, well worth it, especially to not be terrified of having a split in my foreskin when having sex. That alone more than makes up for the small period of pain and discomfort.

I was circumcised at 22 in 1977 for hygiene and personal preference reasons. I had a local anaesthetic then the doctor used a freehand technique to remove my foreskin. There was no discussion on style. My circumcision is low and loose. The sutures were of the dissolving type. There was some swelling and a little pain when I became partly aroused. It was very frustrating waiting so many weeks before I could masturbate. The next year I met the girl I would later marry. She thought my circumcision was very neat. Getting circumcised was one of the best things I ever did.

Had one last summer at the age of 43, id had a few years of the forskin keep tearing during sex whilst meant intimacy was painful and then it healed tighter and tighter. was scared of having the procedure but a general anthestic and 30 mins later it was gone, was swollen for a few weeks but by week 6 it was ready to use again and its been great since, feel miles more confidence dropping my pants these days and it looks better too. if i was your husband id deffo recommend him doing it asap.
