Unpleasant smell after sex..

I’ve name changed for this as a little embarrassed if I’m honest..My husband and I have sex quite frequently, we don’t use contraception. I shower each morning and put fresh clothes on whether it’s been the evening before or that morning, so this isn’t about cleanliness as such. But throughout the day following his fluids trickle down into my knickers and I’m aware that I smell unpleasant. Should it smell unpleasant or does he have an issue? Or maybe the odour isn’t unpleasant, but I’m conscious that it’s quite distinctive and really concerned that others can smell it too! I suppose the obvious answer would be to use condoms but we would rather not. Just wondering if and how others deal with this? Any suggestions?

Try a panty liner maybe

Name changed. I get this too, usually when we've had sex the night before and I smell funny the next morning. Do you remember this glue called Copydex? We used to use it at school in the late 80s. It had a really fishy smell and that's what I smell like the morning after sex sometimes. 🙈 It's more likely to happen if I've gone straight to sleep after sex and not let the cum drop out if me while sat on the loo.

Sorry for the TMI!!!

@dementedpixie genius, thank you x

@copydex, yes, I suppose it is a fishy smell! I think when I was taking the contraceptive pill is wasn’t such an issue as semen would come straight back out due to cervical mucus plug. I had another thought, might help to remove my pubic hair as well as using panty liners.

Another alternative is to ask him to finish somewhere on you, then you can shower afterwards and not deal with the consequences the following day.
Plus it’s quite fun seeing him finish and make a bit of a mess Wink

I’ve not known semen to smell fishy, it does have a slight odor though but not an unpleasant one, which makes me wonder whether you have an infection, bacterial vaginosis can cause a similar fishy odor, make sure you go to the toilet after too, as this will help flush things out a little. A panty litter is another good option too.

Iamabitstinky · 18/10/2021 13:42

@Sarahisaduck that’s a good idea, thank you!

@SparklingStars10 when it’s fresh, there’s just a slight odour, it’s when it’s been there a while and a bit stale perhaps. I honestly don’t think it’s me as have no odour at all except for that x

Some smell will be normal. Different stages in my cycle can also affect how strong the scent is. Maybe just wash the area straight after and then wear a pad.

Tried to add a screenshot but can't work out how, para 5 of this mentions a fishy odour only after sex: www.balanceactiv.com/our-community/articles/bv-and-sex/ also copied below for convenience!

Semen is alkaline and often women find they notice a fishy smell after having sex. This is because the vagina wants to be slightly acidic, but if it’s knocked out of balance by the alkaline semen, and it can trigger BV. But BV doesn’t have to be a problem. If it tends to recur after sex you can try using a condom, peeing straight after sex and / or using a lactic acid gel after you have had sex to reset the balance in there.

There are special sponge thingos (on a stick) that you can buy online for post-sex mop ups. Think they’re called dripsticks?

Iamabitstinky · 19/10/2021 20:22

@pjparty that’s very interesting, thank you!

@MadameMonk why have I never heard of these before! Just looked them up, genius!
I have some spare tampons actually that I never get round to using, maybe they would do the trick!

His sperm is throwing off your PH. I use balance activ pessaries if I notice BV symptoms. Scented soaps can make it worse too I only use Dove unsecented

Flowerpowwer6 · 22/10/2021 20:35

I've had what @copydex described.

I think it's when a man actually finishes in you and I have also had a burning sensation before too it's the actual sperm.

Iamabitstinky · 22/10/2021 23:20

Yes, I only ever use aqueous cream to wash with.
