Have you been asked about your sexual past?

I read somewhere a while ago that all/most women in a long term relationship can expect to be asked about their sexual past. I would be interested to know whether there is any truth in that.
Full disclosure: after we had been married for several years, I did ask my wife. I actually found it quite arousing when she described her teenage fumblings.

Yes..several times with different motivations though. One who wanted to know I was virtually a virgin, ie few previous partners. One who I thought had potential to be controlling (binned off) and DH who sounds a little like you that asked when we have been in bed and liked hearing about it...he asked but then asked for more detail which I wasn't sure about giving at the time

I don’t kiss and tell! It’s only my business.

This post reminds me of a YouTube video
I recently saw on Facebook.

Some ask, some don't.

I can't imagine telling anyone the whole truth now, even if I could remember it all!

I think it would be unpleasant to reveal any sexual history I’ve had with others to a new partner (numbers, type of sex) and I think it’s a personal matter. As women we are judged on this basis a lot. As long as you make sure you are free of STIs that’s the only “history” id get into.

I've never been asked in my half - century & 10 or so lovers. Only 3 LTRs though I guess, and the first of those knew he was my first lover. I think it's not polite to ask, and if asked I'd say something like "That's a very personal question; why do you ask?" or "That's part of my mystery and you shouldn't ever ask a woman that!"
This reminds me of a funny conversation with friends when we were at uni:
Mary: "Sally, you've been going out with Ben for a month now. Soon he's going to want to know how many people you've slept with."
Sally: "Oh God knows, I've lost count!"
Mary: "Just tell him 3 then."
Group collapsed into hilarity & general agreement that this was the ideal number re what boys wanted to hear. Bear in mind we were all only 20!!

I’m in my early 40s now but if l had said 3 when l was 20, l would have risked being struck down by lightning.

Plumtree391 · 10/08/2021 13:37

I wasn't asked by the person I married. I don't think it bothered him at all, he was happy to be with me and I with him.

SirenSays · 10/08/2021 13:42

I remember reading a teen magazine years ago where the advice given was to say Less than Jodie Marsh, but more than the Queen!

This makes me think of the American Pie rule. When a man tells you his number, divide it by three, that's closer to the real number and when a woman tells you her number, X it by 3.

Plumtree391 · 10/08/2021 13:50

That is hilarious SirenSays.

DP and I have discussed pretty much all our history - except the one ex he knows well. That’s totally off the table. He knows we were together but that’s all. Neither of us would be comfortable talking to this ex if I told DP anything intimate, nor would the ex. He’s curious but he respects my decision.

We have played ‘never have i ever’, had giggles about the most embarrassing moments, no judgement from either of us about what the other has chosen to share. To us, sex is just part of the past experiences that make me, me, and him, him.

Opentooffers · 19/08/2021 23:29

Never been specifically asked how many, and I wouldn't say the number anyway as that's my business. Occasionally things may get volunteered up with general opinion, such as ONS sex being poor compared to relationship sex, so I guess that implies I've had both, then you may mention past BF experience in relevant context at the time, or a funny date experience etc. No idea if a man tries to glean the number from general chat, but I think it would be off to ask how many outright.

HateJudgmentalPeople · 21/08/2021 06:11

This is a very outdated attitude if you ask me.

Namechanged1010 · 21/08/2021 07:35

I think the tenet of the question is more about not just being asked but that some men enjoy hearing and get aroused hearing about past lovers.

When we went to see Rush (the Hunt/Lauda battle for F1) DW came out of the cinema with a little nostalgic smile which she wouldn't explain. Given that used to marshal at Silverstone in her late teens, when Hunt was testing the Hesketh...
