He doesn't have ED, but doesn't stay as hard as he'd like for as long as he'd like. So he bought some generic Viagra online.

It didn't do anything. It made no difference at all.

Is that usual? I had high expectations and it was very disappointing.

If he bought it online from anywhere than a registered UK pharmacy who ask for an On-line prescription to be generated....e.g Boots or Lloyds or Superdrug for example, chances are it is fake and doesn't contain sildafenil at all. That would explain why it had no effect. If it is the genuine article then it should be taken a while before sex...about an hour is suggested I believe. Even if it is the genuine article it doesn't work for everyone...no drug ever does...

Signoftimes · 03/05/2021 13:14

Probably fake so try the real thing from a pharmacy

Whatliesbeneath707 · 03/05/2021 19:51

As others have said - was it actually Viagra or a fake?
Also, look at the dose if he wants to try it again - it does come in different “strengths” so it would be worth another go to see if it works but be careful not to overdose!

ragnarson · 03/05/2021 20:21

There are plenty of people to say it's fake, but there's plenty available from places like hims that are real.
However.
Viagra only helps overcome certain causes. There's not a pill for mental block issues

MisterT373 · 03/05/2021 22:51

What dosage did he get?

AverageGuy · 04/05/2021 08:17

@NotRainingToday - You can now buy Viagra over the counter at the Chemist - no need to buy from what might be a dodgy online vendor.

Also, it doesn't work miracles. It won't give him an erection all on it's own - all it does is to ease blood flow - he still has to be physically turned on.

NotRainingToday · 04/05/2021 08:33

@AverageGuy

Thanks, I didn't know you could buy it over the counter. Might try that.

He did have an erection, it just wasn't improved in any way....

You also have to be very careful with how it is taken. Viagra is supposed to be taken on a completely empty stomach. If I take it within less than six hours of eating anything it has no effect at all. When taken in the morning before breakfast the effect is fantastic.

It does mean that you cannot expect to go out for a meal and then have a night of passion afterwards, but it can be worked around. Cialis is much more tolerant of food, so may be worth a try.

AverageGuy · 04/05/2021 09:20

From what I understand, Calis is available from your GP, but you may have to go as a private patient to get it as a prescription.

j712adrian · 04/05/2021 11:26

If he doesn't have ED, it won't have any effect at all. It's pointless taking it. What were you expecting?

MisterT373 · 04/05/2021 11:36

There are 3 sizes of Viagra - 25mg, 50mg and 100 mg - check which dose he had and if it was low then take a step up. As others have mentioned it needs to be taken on an empty stomach

Cialis is also called the weekend drug as it lasts the whole weekend. In the US they advertise it as a medication you can take a dose of each day so you are ready for sex anytime.

I was expecting it to get hard (which it can and does) and stay hard (which it sometimes doesn't). Most times, it's hard-ish but the end is a bit soft. I thought it would sort that out.

Interesting about the empty stomach. I didn't know that.....!

@NotRainingToday - might be worth your partner getting checked over by the GP. It's possible there is something physical going on.

Rockluvvindad · 05/05/2021 08:41

Viagra is particularly affected by fatty foods, so plate of steak and deep fried stuff before taking it likely means it won't be making any difference.

If you're planning to eat before sex, better to take the tablet an hour before and eat after you feel the effects ( blocked up nose, slight colour tinge to vision, etc... ) and then eat. Once it is in the bloodstream it will work even if you eat after ( if it is going to work ).

Agree with the PP about dosage. It might be that he needs a higher dose ( body mass might be a factor ). It can be a useful psychological crutch if the guy is having performance anxiety and losing his erection but you might take a few goes to get the usage right.

Good luck !

I feel the need to sing the praises of Viagra, incase anyone comes across this thread and is put off trying it. It is basically a wonder drug, and far more fun than any other recreational drug I have tried. No side effects other than a very slight heady effect, (a very similar feeling to one drink on a summers day), It doesn't matter what you eat, a big meal may make it work 15 minutes later. Just wait for the heady effect and you are good to go.
I always buy the real thing, and follow the dosage instructions which is to try 100mg first and then decrease until you find minimum dose that works for you. I quickly found 25mg works for me.
The big difference for me is it makes me hard at a much lower state of arousal, so I can last so much longer. DW starts to pant and wriggle about a minute before she comes, which is so incredibly sexy that without viagra its very hit and miss whether I can last the minute, and I am spending my time concentrating on not coming rather than enjoying the moment.
With viagra I just sit back and enjoy the ride (pun intended).
Its gives an insight to what it is like being a professional athlete. However good you are, you will be better with the performance enhancing drugs!
I personally don't discuss it with DW as I feel my performance is very personal to me, but she knows I take it as I make just a token effort to hide the drugs.
We are usually gentle and loving but sometimes I'm a bit more adventurous, and she will say to me with mock accusation "Have you been taking something?" which I always deny which makes her giggle.
So don't be put off and enjoy!

Sparkybloke · 07/06/2021 13:47

Just to be clear. Viagra and the others do not give you an erection. They just make getting an erection more likely IF the man is sexually stimulated. Every man is different when it comes to arousal but generally this means visual stimuli..sexy lingerie for example, touch...kissing, caressing etc. If you take viagra and then dig the garden for four hours you won't get erect! If you take viagra and then your dp appears in some skimpy undies with that look then most likely you will...provided you have no health issues, are not tired or stressed, and are also in the mood for funGrin...it can certainly help with fear of failure issues too..
I use it once in a while if we know we have the chance for an extended session and then it is fab. We may spend more than an hour on foreplay and mutual masturbation before DP wants piv...and then she can ride me for agesGrin. Once I have ejaculated the erection goes as usual but I may be ready again in less than an hour....we are fifties...so we usually shower after the first round and then I may get a second go in the shower. As others say, take on an empty stomach or just a light snack. Drink a good glass of water when taking it. Takes 45 mins to an hour to work. I get a mild headache when it takes effect but it soon passes. For me it doesn't really improve firmness as I get pretty hard anyhow but it does improve staying power ....as so long as I don't orgasm I'll be erect on demand for two hours plus. As with all medication check with your gp if you have any history of high blood pressure, stroke or a long list of other heart and circulatory conditions first! The web is awash with fakes so only buy from a genuine high st pharmacy...low doses ...I use 50mg...are available without prescription.
