A question about doggy

I have a genuine question about this and promise am not being a perv.

I've never much liked it - it's not bad, but I don't get anything from it. It's also not a position that was in my regular repertoire at all when I was in relationships earlier in the 2000s, but seems to be done more now.

I was talking to a guy about it who said it was his fave position and was genuinely surprised when I said it didn't really do anything for me as said all of the other women he's been with seem quite into it.

I wondered if I was missing out on something?

OP posts:

Can't speak from a woman's perspective, but as the rear legs of the pantomime horse it's not a position I'm overly fussed about. I find it too impersonal as we can't see each others faces or kiss. I wonder if that lack of personal connection is why it appeals to some but maybe I'm being cynical. The only time my wife and I tend to use it is maybe 1 time in 20 when I'm giving her a back massage and then the massage is still very much the focus and the intercourse secondary.

TooTrueToBeGood · 05/05/2019 10:41

Just to add, your bf sounds like a bit of a twat. Comparing you to his previous partners is crass in the extreme and he's probably bullshitting or deluding himself anyway. If you want to give it, or anything else, a try that should be your choice and if you don't that is your prerogative.

Myotherusernamewastakenagain · 05/05/2019 10:52

Where did she mention her bf? From what OP said, It was a discussion with someone about sex and there was no mention of this guy comparing OP to his previous partners.

TooTrueToBeGood · 05/05/2019 11:04

"Where did she mention her bf?*

Good catch. My fault for speed reading the OP. Substitute "bf" for "a guy" in my post and all is good. I'm sure you could have figured that out for yourself though.

You aren’t alone. I’m not a great fan either. You just don’t get the intimacy that should be there in doggy mode.

dogfishman · 05/05/2019 23:40

Am a chap and love it, both the look and feel. most women I've been with have loved it, and some said it was their favourite. It can be intimate too, if done in the right way.

Blokenamechangesexboard · 06/05/2019 05:21

I think the advantages are mostly to me, but isn't that the case with PIV generally?

Anyway, the advantages are:

  • A tighter grip on the cock, which can feel very good and speed the man along if he's slow.
  • He gets to feel like the Big Man as the woman is in a submissive position.
  • He gets a good view of her arse, which is very erotic.

It's a good, rude position, and while I agree that it isn't as intimate, sometimes good, rude sex is what one wants (in my case at least).

Blokenamechangesexboard · 06/05/2019 05:29

Oh.. and the man (or the woman) can reach below and rub the clitoris or use a vibrator, so the advantages aren't entirely one way.

EmptyOrchestra · 06/05/2019 11:59

IME this can be the best position or the absolute worst depending on the skills of the man you’re with, and how bothered they are about your enjoyment vs theirs.

At the wrong angle, especially with a well endowed partner, it can really hurt, especially if they think that sex is just slamming their penis in and out of you as hard and fast as humanly possible (ick).

With the right angle it can be incredible because of the g-zone stimulation. When I was younger, I didn’t think I had a g spot, I’d never felt it and sex from behind wasnt great.

Then in my 30s I went hunting for my g spot while enjoying some alone time with a small bullet vibrator and boy did I find it! Except it’s not a spot, it’s several and on the front wall and the back.

When you first start exploring this a) you may not find it and b) it might not feel great. If you ever get a slightly queasy feeling during sex from behind, that’s probably what it is.

Most important thing is to be very very aroused and relaxed. Mine only really starts working after a few orgasms and when I’m really in the mood. Experiment on your own and find out what feels best (tapping, hooking and pulling at it, etc). It can take some pretty firm stimulation to get anywhere especially at first - apparently glass or metal curved dildos are the best way to find it and get the necessary stimulation. I don’t need that fortunately.

In terms of any position where your partner is behind you, you need to take advantage of the curve of your vagina so that the penis is stimulating the right point for you. If it’s on the front wall, on your knees with your back arched or both upright works well. If it’s the back wall it’s trickier, but lying flat on your front works well.

If you’re with a partner you trust and feel very comfortable with, one of the best ways to experiment with this position is to ask them to kneel behind you and stay still (very important!), back up on to them and then experiment with moving around on them. If I’m having sex in this position generally, the movement is more in and out, but if I’m taking the lead to make it as enjoyable as I can for me, I find moving my hips side to side and grinding much more effective - I can handle much deeper penetration if I’m in charge and know that he isn’t going to start slamming me in the cervix!

Yikes - that was more detail than I intended 😂

EmptyOrchestra · 06/05/2019 12:04

It's a good, rude position, and while I agree that it isn't as intimate, sometimes good, rude sex is what one wants (in my case at least).

If it’s never an intimate position, you’re really not making the most of it! I think the idea that it’s a rude position and only men get something out of it really stops women from learning what works for them here

I think the advantages are mostly to me, but isn't that the case with PIV generally?

Hell no!

EmptyOrchestra · 06/05/2019 14:03

Oh, I remembered another way I can get a lot out of this. Ask your partner so sit upright with their legs stretched out in front of them. Facing away from them, straddle them and lower yourself on to them then (carefully!) lean forward so you can support yourself with your hands. Then do what feels good to you! Rear entry positions don’t have to mean that you’re submissive and the guy can just slam away feeling like king cock while staring at your arse 🙄

If you find it’s lacking intimacy, I find kneeling upright with my hands against the wall headboard and my partner behind me, so they can wrap their arms around you, touch you, kiss your neck, shoulders etc very intimate. Also, spooning sex is great for the same (and low impact when you’re knackered) - we do this for about an hour sometimes, very slowly, no pounding necessary. Tilt your bum up or tuck it under so that it hits the right spot. Again, take the lead and you move if you’re trying to find what works for you.

The more I think about it, the more annoying I find this accepted idea that women get little out of PIV sex really bloody depressing. I used to think that too, until I had really good sex. if PIV sex did nothing for women, none of us would use internal vibrators / dildos would we?! If any man thinks that women don’t get much out of PIV (and I’ve been with plenty of those men, believe me) then they’re doing it wrong.

Gamorasgran · 06/05/2019 17:14

I must say I've never considered it impersonal. It's a favourite of ours - dh likes the angle and I find i concentrate on the penetration more. One of us (usually me because he has shit coordination and finds it like patting his tummy and rubbing his head) will always stimulate my clit as well and it's often a favourite way for me to come.

MaryPopppins · 06/05/2019 19:23

It's a popular one for my DH and I.

He really loves my bum so suits him well to grab at it. Also he gets a good view of the sec happening which he really loves. And I have very intense orgasms while in that position.

So as long as we don't need to worry about noise it's a favourite.

Sure it's not very "romantic" but we generally always start and end with kissing and cuddling so it's nice to be a bit 'rough' sometimes.

Blokenamechangesexboard · 09/05/2019 19:38

@EmptyOrchestra

Yikes - that was more detail than I intended

But I'm glad you posted as I decided to try it out a few evenings ago. After a few adjustments and asking DW how it felt ("Mmph, fine") I gave up asking after a couple more times as I felt I was somewhat spoiling the mood. Then a couple of evenings later, she specifically wanted doggy PIV and nothing else. So, thanks Smile

Rear entry positions don’t have to mean that you’re submissive and the guy can just slam away feeling like king cock while staring at your arse

If you're a scrawny specimen like me, feeling like the King Cock just for a few moments is most welcome. And luckily for me, DW does genuinely like me to slam away a bit. But I do agree that that's not the only option.

MyAmusedPearlSquid · 23/10/2025 18:11

Female pov I personally love it most and the feeling of thrust is amazing from that position
