Fused clitoris (lichen sclerosus)

Very personal topic, but I’d welcome any advice. I have lichen sclerosus, which has caused my clitoris hood to fuse. Naturally this is really not helping things between DH and I’m keen to have it fixed!

I’ve read that this can be surgically corrected, and was wondering if any Mumsnetters know of doctors I could contact who do this operation? UK preferably, but am willing to travel if necessary.

There is a couple of Facebook groups that may be worth joining. I have only recently joined them after being diagnosed in December. I hope you manage to get sorted.

Thanks very much for this suggestion WIntersnow! Hope things improve for you.

You have my sympathy. Did you see a gynaecologist yet? I have a similar issue and my gynaecologist has prescribed steroid cream. He says surgery is a last resort as it can create scar tissue worse than the original problem and it is difficult to predict how the skin will heal before hand. A friend of mine has had similar surgery and bitterly regrets it as it hasn’t solved her issue and her scar tissue is painful. Equally there are lots of stories on line of successful surgery. It’s difficult to know what to do. It’s a crappy situation to be in and I’d be interested to know how you get on.

Hi Lozster, I’m sorry to hear that you’ve also got this horrible problem, and also that the surgery wasn’t a success for your friend. I’m prepared to take the risk that it might make things worse, as I can’t go on like this and I deserve the chance to see if the surgery might work. If it doesn’t, then at least I will know that I tried.
