Help herpes

Hey everyone,

I'm v embarrassed about this but feeling very low and lonely. A few days ago I had intense vaginal itching and some sores around the clitoris. The doctor isn't sure but thinks it could be herpes and I will get the test results back next week.

I'm devastated. I'm married with children and have been with my DH for over 10 years. I have never been unfaithful and neither has he. My doctor says it can lie dormant in your system for over 10 years and that some people never even find out they have it due to no outbreaks. Therefore it will be something I either caught over 10 years ago or potentially if DH suffers from cold sore virus that I caught through oral sex unknowingly.

I am completely devastated and I feel dirty and disgusted with myself that I'm in this position. I'm just looking for some reassurance really. I've been put on aclovir tablets but I'm still itching and in discomfort. I feel so low. Does anyone else suffer? Moral support required!

Confused Obviously you have. But it could be either type.

Hehe oh sorry Galla, I think it's affected me mentally too! Haha I get it!

I'm not feeling well at all, itching has died down and no vaginal pain but massive headache, worst throat since 6am (getting worse) and chills. Is this normal?!

Not for me. The thing about herpes is that it's pretty individual. Everyone gets it a bit differently. Not helpful I know.

threelittlepiggies · 17/04/2017 23:05

Thank you Wally, I'm worried something is wrong with me

Herpes goes hand in hand with illness and getting run down. So you might well have a cold coming on.

I second wally
Just try and get some rest and hopefully you'll be on the mend soon

Well I'm v confused, back from doctors and they said test results are clear, no herpes. I know it was never definite but i have the signs (fever, sore throat, itchy vagina) I wonder if they are right?

I've just rtft and wasn't expecting that outcome OP! I guess that's...good news, perhaps? Did they do a full STI screening? Did they say you should go back for more tests? Don't know what it might be otherwise, I'm afraid.

I don't know, they took a swab from the area when it was at its most itchy in the early stages, I keep thinking it must be wrong! The doctor said the fact the swan was taken at the worst point it should be accurate and also (tmi) as there was no crusting over of blisters, there were just small sores/cuts that disappeared. All seems strange to me!!!!

She said she thinks I've got some kind of virus and that can affect the vaginal area?!

Swabs can and do come back negative.

If you are brave google images.

I've had it for years. Am still very embarrassed to talk about it in rl. As pp have said, the first outbreak is the worst. It does get easier and more predictable so easier to manage. Try and drink lots of water so that it's not so painful when you pee. That's the only tip I have!
You are definitely not alone though.
