Mirena coil and no libido

Hi all,

I have had the coil for approx 1 year now and it is great, apart from the fact that my libido has flat lined! I have discussed this with my GP who suggested having it removed to see if this helps. Has anyone else out there had this problem? and did your desire improve after having the mirena removed?

have you tried just powering through? for example masturbating, and almost trying to force your libido to wake up?

I'm not saying that would work, but you have nothing to lose by it.

Yes, even though the desire isn't there I am still sexually active. It's the lack of desire and passion which frustrates me. I have the mentality of use it or lose it! I have battled with this for such a long time, it's feels as though my fire has gone out. I love my partner very much and even though he is supportive I can see that it upsets him.

That sounds really hard...nothing worse than sex when you're just "playing along". I'm impressed you even do that, especially if you're not aroused.

I'm not a doctor but I say try losing the coil. Good luck :)

Not the coil but still progesterone. Mini pill did the same for me - mood v flat and no libido. I was putting it down to a stressful time but was completely different when I stopped taking it. Felt back to normal - so I'd definitely try losing the coil!

Same happened to me, once it was removed it was noticeably much higher. But condoms alone make me nervous!

My poor libido has been an ongoing problem since the traumatic delivery of my son, which took me months to physically heal. Unfortunately the mirena has caused my libido to completely flat line!
I have been on the copper coil twice before, unfortunately however i would bleed heavily leaving me to feel exhausted. My partner is at the end of his tether and says that he cannot go back to me being on the copper coil. I feel completely helpless and that my only option in sterilisation. I have asked my partner to have a vasectomy but he has refused. I do understand as he had a vasectomy in his previous relationship then a reversal when he met me. He suffered a lot after the reversal and is still uncomfortable at times. I feel so stuck at the moment. My appointment to have it removed is this week but feel that if I go ahead with it my partner will walk 😞

Hey i have just come on to look at any ideas on loss of libido and I could have written this post too and I also have the mirena coil. I have never linked the two. I have been wondering if I have been depressed or stressed but my libido is zero and my partner is starting to feel a bit rejected. He is the same he is not keen on a vasectomy. We have 2 kids aged 12 and 10 and I am worried the pill/condoms is too risky. I have had no bother with the mirena apart from this and hadn't even linked the two until I read this post. Maybe it's a good idea to visit the Dr and ask about other options - what about the injection? xxxx

Watching with interest as I am in exactly the same position.

I can't have the implant or injection. I'm thinking of asking for sterilisation.

Just wanted to say I had no libido for years and didn't link the two.
I had my mirena removed last month and I've definitely noticed a change already. I can't work out any other reason (same old DH of 23 years ha ha) . I'd say definitely try something else if you don't feel normal and don't panic if the coil won't come out at first. As my GP couldn't get it out (it had been in there about 7 years) I had to go to the Gynie unit at my local hospital where she had it out in about 5 seconds!!!
