Tmi about herpes

Girlboymummy · 24/11/2016 20:19

So I recently slept with someone and performed oral sex. Stupidly without a condom. 13 days later I developed oral herpes my question is does this mean I will also get genital ones?

Anyone?

Did you have penetrative sex without a condom too? If do then yes, theres a risk.

Are you male or female?

Girlboymummy · 24/11/2016 20:54

Yes unfortunately and I'm female. Would it not appear at the same time or am I just going to be waiting for if something happens? My gp did say it's possible it hasn't been contracted through that as I am prone to cold sores and have been generally under the weather recently

I've had a bit of training in sti stuff but I'm not a health care worker.

From what I understand of herpes its where the first outbreak comes out is where you will get reoccurring episodes. Only on the first outbreak can you get it in more than one place. If you don't develop blisters down there then you won't get them there.

However there are two types of herpes and its possible to catch both and you could have one down there and one on your face.

Also it might not of been caught by the last person you had sex with. You could have had it for 10 years and it only came out recently.

J0kersSmile · 24/11/2016 20:58

Cold sores are oral herpes. You've already got the herpes virus. I'm confused now.

Girlboymummy · 24/11/2016 21:00

I feel physically sick about all of this I've been so stupid! Thank you for your replies I'm in quite a lot of pain which is making me feel worse

Sorry it's not a cold sore it is in my throat

'I'm prone to cold sores' - that is oral herpes!

Kiwi32 · 24/11/2016 21:01

There are two strains of herpes to consider: HSV-1 most commonly affects the mouth as cold sores. HSV-2 most commonly affects the genitals as 'herpes'. The You can catch genital HSV-1 or oral HSV-2 from oral sex. If you are already prone to cold sores you are already carrying the HSV-1 virus and always will.

In this instance I would say it's most likely that you have simply had a flare-up of your cold sores. You haven't caught anything new.

MyKingdomForBrie · 24/11/2016 21:01

Well I'd say that's not herpes then.. unless the dr has swabbed it?

singleandfabulous · 24/11/2016 21:03

Ah, so youve had them before. It might just be a bad outbreak then.

Best go to the gum clinic and get swabbed. theyll be able to tell you if its type 1 or type 2 and treat you appropriately.

J0kersSmile · 24/11/2016 21:03

Get your Dr to prescribe you anti viral if you keep having flare ups. They're quite expensive so you might have to keep on to get them but don't let it ruin your life. Lots of people have herpes I think the statistics something silly like one in three or one in five.

Girlboymummy · 24/11/2016 21:05

It wasn't swabbed but she was pretty confident that's what is was and gave me antiviral medication to take for 5 days. They look like small blisters that are red in my throat

BakeOffBiscuits · 24/11/2016 21:10

You should go back and ask for a test. They can tell you what type you have. It is pretty common so really shouldn't worry too much.

If you do get cold sores just don't kiss anyone, anywhere!

Girlboymummy · 24/11/2016 21:14

Thanks all for making me feel better and lesson is well an truly learnt about unprotected sex 🙈

Also this website's good herpes.org.uk/frequently-asked-questions/

Hope you feel better soon, as a pp said loads of people carry the herpes virus. It's just one of life's annoyances, try to think of it like you would any other virus like a cold. It'll get better.

clumsyduck · 24/11/2016 21:22

I think it stays at the site of initial infection so you won't suddenly get it down there but you will be able to pass it on by giving oral sex yes . Genital herpes is a different strain to coldsores though so you could now have hsv 1 and 2 or just 1 ( coldsores ) as it's possible to also have 1 on your genitals

Having said that's if it reappears get it swapped , yes it's very common but you can pass it on even before the blisters become visible therefore anytime you give oral sex in future you run that risk so it's best that you find out!! In all honesty though I think it's probably not herpes and it's a coincidence

BakeOffBiscuits · 24/11/2016 21:22

Children have cold sores too, it's really nothing to be ashamed or worried aboutSmile

BakeOffBiscuits · 24/11/2016 21:26

"Not herpes"Confused

It is herpes whether it's a cold sore or genital. There are two herpes viruses. One comes out around the mouth the other around the genitals. But they are both a herpes virus. Anyne who has ever had a cold sore, has the herpes virus, including children.

clumsyduck · 24/11/2016 21:34

If you mean me I'm saying I think it's unlikely it's herpes not that hsv1 isn't a types of herpes

She's hasn't has it swapped . 13 days is quite a long time after the act. I'm guessing he had no visible sores and although there is still a chance you can pass it on without sores (which is why I said she must get this confirmed ) it is quite a low chance

clumsyduck · 24/11/2016 21:35

*swabbed

WendyPan1992 · 25/11/2016 01:21

Hey there! I just wanted to say I have vaginal herpes (sorry for TMI) but do not have it on my mouth and have been told by the doctors that sometimes you can just have it in one of the places but of course it depends if you did more than just oral sex...plus vaginal herpes is not something that appears that often and sometimes it takes years after you been infected to appear which makes it impossible to know who gave it to you.
