Sex life suffering thanks to thrush!

Ladies, I am very new to this so apologies if I have put this thread in the complete wrong section!!
I am 22 years old, fit and healthy with no underlying health conditions (all blood tests and swabs done).. I have one partner of over a year.
After 5 or so doctors appointments, creams, pessaries and tests.. No one can tell me WHY the past few months I have literally had CONSTANT thrush.. There is like not even a day of not having it!
My boyfriend has been very understanding but quite understandably frustrated, as am I, as we've gone from 2 times a day to him using his hand for the past 12 or so weeks :(
I am beyond frustrated now.. I use Canensten soap to wash in, I wash my clothes in non-bio baby powder, I wear cotton underwear, sleep naked, play football commando, take Pro-biotic tablets, let the damn thing breath.. Even treated the boyfriend and haven't touched him since!!
There is nothing I haven't tried.. Could it be my pill? Please, if anyone can shed some light on my suffering I would be forever grateful.. I need my sex life back as it's making me feel very down. I can't keep living like this!! Sad
Thank you X

Anal sex might be an option.

buckingfrolicks · 10/11/2016 23:59

have you completely cut out sugar (which includes alcohol I'm afraid) and wheat - anything that is from fermented food? so also marmite!

Thrush is absolutely horrible. Are you SURE it's thrush not something else?

3boys3dogshelp · 11/11/2016 00:01

When I had thrush during pregnancy the midwife told me to iron the gussets of all my knickers!! She said the heat would kill the thrush to stop you getting reinfected. Worth a try??

Cherry24xx · 11/11/2016 00:03

Wow! Haven't heard this one before! I am so up for trying so will give it a go! Thank you

I haven't fully implemented the diet changes to be honest.. I will start looking into what I eat.
Unfortunately it is thrush, tests came back as that and nothing else Sad

Stop using soap water is fine

hollinhurst84 · 11/11/2016 00:13

Have you been to the GUM clinic? They were helpful, gave pessaries to be used once a month for 6 months
Also they can check what type of thrush it is and give the right treatment

Redactio · 11/11/2016 00:14

Anal would be fine so long as you are up for it, keep it as clean as you can, and make sure he takes it easy.

TheNaze73 · 11/11/2016 00:22

I think Anal might be your option here along with all the other non PIV pursuits. Don't let him use his hand all the time Grin

weekendninja · 11/11/2016 00:22

I had thrush that lasted months. The gp eventually tried me on itraconizole (sp) and took them daily for a few weeks. It totally sorted me out and I have had no problems since.

Obviously it goes without saying your partner needs to be treated too.

Good luck.

Redactio · 11/11/2016 00:29

He doesn't have to penetrate you, teach him what his fingers are for.

passportmess · 11/11/2016 00:42

I've had ongoing thrush like this. In the end I was allergic to the Canestan cream and the sore skin was letting the fungal infection back in.

I can only take the oral tablets for thrush and have to use sparingly trimovate cream.

I'd recommend going to a GUM clinic as someone suggested as they really know this issue.

Heat brings on thrush for me so I can't have baths, only showers. I can't wear skinny jeans either. I found washing with water not soap works best for me as the skin there is so sensitive. I also iron my gussets! Good luck.

Clankboing · 11/11/2016 00:46

Have you used the canesten tablet, pessary and cream all at the same time?

PoppyPicklesPenguin · 11/11/2016 00:46

Sounds like your not having sex but asthma inhalers can cause oral thrush and that can then be passed via oral sex or kissing and that can result in thrush in some women. He could show 0 symptoms and be the actual cause in you.

Candida really is a pain in the arse but can also be helped by avoiding sugar and yeast products, as well as a good pro-biotic powder. I have a book which was helpful will dig it out and post tomorrow.

IPityThePontipines · 11/11/2016 00:50

Yes, it could be your pill, definitely.

I had this for months, stopped taking the pill and it went away rapidly.

sallysparrow157 · 11/11/2016 01:50

Erm.. suggesting anal as the only solution is not overly helpful...

It may well be that you have thrush that is resistant to the over the counter meds, but may also be an underlying skin irritation which is just picking up thrush cause of the sore broken skin. Go see your GP but if they don't give any answers try your family planning/GUM/sexual health clinic - they don't just look afte sexually transmitted stuff.

Cherry24xx · 11/11/2016 07:11

Thank you everyone, you've all been very helpful!
I guess a trip down to the GUM clinic is definitely needed - I'll see what they can offer me there.
I'm going to stop taking my pill too, just so I can really get to the route of what's causing this.
And yes, one tried the Canensten treatment oral tablet as well as all the creams etc.. I think I'm completely resistant to them now!
I'll let you all know when I've been a solid week without thrush.. If I ever do see the day!!

Contraceptive pill caused recurrent thrush for me. Also make sure he is being treated and definitely clear too otherwise it just passes back and forth even though not technically an STD. And try and get a sympathetic GP - some are much more helpful than others.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/11/2016 07:19

You don't use scented or plastic sanitary towels , do you? I get almost instant thrush using them.

hollinhurst84 · 11/11/2016 08:04

Honestly the GUM clinic were fab - they even talked to me about a pessary I had read about but the doctor had never heard of and explained that different treatments are better depending on the strain/type of thrush Smile

INeedNewShoes · 11/11/2016 08:09

OP after repeated trips to the GPs who diagnosed and prescribed treatment for thrush, in desperation I had a chat with my local pharmacist. She was brilliant, diagnosed the problem (without looking of course) and suggested I try BV Activ Gel to treat bacterial vaginosis.

After months of discomfort and trying different thrush treatment, I can honestly say I saw a difference within 24 hours of using the gel and within three days the discomfort and other symptoms had completely disappeared.

Maybe worth a go?

And do not feel you have to engage in anal sex just because PIV isn't an option at the moment!

sleepachu · 11/11/2016 08:11

Has your fella been treated? I get recurrent thrush (I think it's the mirena) but I'm pretty sure he was passing it back to me every time I got rid of it for ages before he started showing symptoms and we realised.

Cherry24xx · 11/11/2016 09:53

Yes, parent was treated with the oral tablet and cream for two weeks and we haven't had sex since then so he's definitely clear now - I'm the one who's not! :(
I do have the BV gel at home, I didn't use it as I read that's a different infection to Thrush but anything is worth a try so I'll give it a go - thank you!
