Really want to try this out with DP but not sure if it's possible for me to produce milk without being pg. Is it possible? Are there any mumsnetters who've tried it?

Surely 'wet nurses' used to lactate to feed other (richer) women's babies?
Or were all wet nurses pg at the time?
I thought it was possible, if enough stimulation is given
(ie, if not a baby nursing then presumably a breast pump would get lactation going if used frequently enough?)

Just seems you need to persevere with regular pumping or suckling throughout the day until the flow comes in.

My source for what? That wet nurses were mothers? That's just common sense. No one would bother trying to artificially induce lactation in a woman who hasn't had children in order for her to wet nurse when there was an abundance of already lactating women in the world.

Artificially inducing lactation requires a lot of time spent pumping or having a baby suckle at the breast (and it would be hard to keep them there long when no milk is forthcoming) and administering additional hormones.

As current milk machine to a 5 week old, with oversupply, and leaking everywhere, the thought of this being erotic actually makes me want to vom! Is this really 'a thing'? Bleurgh.
