Finchley secondary schools

Does anyone know, or have experience of Finchley secondary schools?
We don't seem to be in the catchment area for any. It seems we would have to move to get my DDs into any school after primary.

A piano is no good. The schools want musicians for their orchestra so if your dc is at all musical choose an unusual instrument. A double bass player (I'm talking orchestral, NOT the guitar bass) will always have a head start and will have no problem joining all the youth orchestras far and wide provided he or she reaches a minimum standard - probably about grade 4 but could be less. Small children eg aged 7 years or so, can start by learning a mini bass, then move on to quarter size. Drawback is that it can be a pain to haul it around (speaking from experience here)

Hi dipim

Your friend was lucky for Wren, did she get offered off the waiting list?? We are only 0.8 miles away and did not get in - I finally got her in on appeal - it might be your friends are Church goers???

Doldi - I am looking at some teacher work experience in Bishop Douglass (even though I'm quite old to change!), on visiting the school I have been impressed at how quiet and organised it is, I believe it may be a school to watch. Visit and see what you think!

Good luck - hope you get your first choice.

Any thoughts on Friern Barnet school - my son is in year 7 and I am not sure how I'm feeling about it. He doesn't seem to have made any new friends yet although he was very popular at primary school. Also not sure about the standards of work. Feeling quite worried....!
Thank you.

I've heard that the Compton School are opening another school in N3 or NW7 from a friend who attended a meeting at Moss Hall. They have a really good reputation but we live too far away. Does anyone know where the new school will be. Hope to find out more at meeting at Dollis Junior on Tuesday

Anyone posted about the Compton school in Finchley recently?? I got an alert on my phone but can't find the thread.
Trying to piece together what's happening with their plans to open a new school and if so will it mean their current catchment will grow in size.
