If you didn't send the form off for secondary school, do they allocate one to your child anyway?

Ds has a place elsewhere, they sent me the form in October(ish) and I had to return it 2 days later . I'm just wondering if they will allocate him a place in a school anyway so I can turn it down? (stupid smiley )

I didn't send DDs form off as I sent her from a state primary to an independent. They nagged me a bit until I sent it in very late. I didn't get an offer letter at the same time as everyone else but I did get one a couple of weeks late offering me the catchment comp that wasn't even on my list.

Thankyou. I've heard nothing from the LEA at all since October, 2 days wouldn't have given me enough time anyway. He has a place at an independant school so I'm not too fussed, I just wouldn't want him to be 'expected' somewhere and not turn up, then have the educational welfare officer trying to contact me.

Forgot to add that my Mum works at the local comp where she was allocated a place and said her(DDs) name was on all the lists for ages! Despite me never accepting the offer or expressing an interest in the school ever...

I can't remember what happened in the end... I think I actually rang up the education department and told them where she was going just to be on the safe side.

Might be worth doing, only takes a couple of minutes.

We to are moving state to Indi, and received our state place yesterday. When I return the state form declining it, there is a section that asks where the child is actually going, if not to them. IYSWIM

thing is you could say anything on the form - they don't actually check...

We never even got sent a form so no I think they'll assume he remains in the independent sector unless you request otherwise. Do independents have to submit a list of those on roll to LEA I wonder ?

He moved to the inde scool he's at now from a state school, the LEA knew he had moved there as they sent me a form after the school told them that he wasn't there any more.

LIZS - our DD is in private junior and was sent the LEA form. I'm very suprised you didn't get one.

Belle, if your DS had been allocated a state school place you should surely have had the letter by today.

nope have n't ever had forms for either ds - who is now Year 7 so would have moved last September in state system - or dd - who would probably have had to apply at Year 3 as we have an infant/junior system as well as primary schools. Unless they were sent to the address we moved from 3 years ago .

I checked the bottom of the form, it said if it's not returned then my child will be given a place in the catchment school providing there's places, if not, the nearest school with a place. Our catchment school is dire though, I'll give them a ring on Monday and turn it down. Surly they should have sent me something though??
