ds1 has some maths home work , which im stuck on, it seems easy and i thought it would be fun but i cant get close to the answer his teacher has given! (he is in yr 6)

So, he has been given the numbers 75, 10, 88, 72 and has to use them to get to 648.
he can use and equations i can get to 708 but cannot get lower!!

(im quite ashamed as im now doing Mlevel study and cant do yr 6 maths!! )

75 10 88 72

ds has got 646:

75 times 10 minus (88-72=16) = 646

purpleturtle · 14/01/2010 20:29

Are you sure?

72 x 10 = 720
-72 = 648

catinthehat2 · 14/01/2010 20:38

Are you assuming you have to use all the numbers, or is it in the instruction?

Erm Pinkheart......

catinthehat2 · 14/01/2010 20:46

Isn't 648 good enough for you?

pinkheart · 14/01/2010 20:49

sorry catinthehat, he says he cant use the same number twice, but if he does (72x10)-75=645 thats close?,
sorry wasnt ignoring you, not refreshing page!

OP posts:
SleighGirl · 14/01/2010 20:50

surely you can only use each number once though

catinthehat2 · 14/01/2010 20:54
Smile
ra29needsabettername · 14/01/2010 20:55

75x10 =750
-(88+72) =590
+75 =665
-10 =655
-10 =645

  • (75 - 72)= 648

according to ds!

pinkheart · 14/01/2010 20:55

he has to hand it in tomorrow,
he was meant to have done this monday but did something else instead, hence why hes still up but will be in bed at 9 as soon as he has finished writing
thankyou all for helping me!
