Any regrets at secondary school choice?

It's 6 weeks since start of term. Does anyone have any regrets about the secondary school chosen for their DC?

Has anything that you considered important in the school chosen turned out to be important in practice or was much less impressive than it looked on the outside. Equally, anything that has turned out to be important which you hadn't considered at the time of your decision.

why do you want ot know?
Do you have any school age children?

zanzibarmum · 16/11/2009 14:31

Bruffin - were you that irritating girl at school who always answered a question with a question?

Seems a reasonable question that a parent might ask ahead of secondary transfer - did the importance people attached to different aspects of a school in making a decision change after experience of the chosen school some six weeks after starting there.

mahoosive mistake with one of mine and took them out. Not boring you with the details.

But I don't get the impression you are that type of parent. I get the impressiopn you have entirely different agenda and it would be nice if you were honest about it

WhatDidISayRoy · 16/11/2009 16:02

oh are we talking journo bruffin?

bruffin · 16/11/2009 16:13

No Idea WDISR but reading Zanzibarsmum's post in the past she doesn't post as a "parent"

WhatDidISayRoy · 16/11/2009 16:29

aah right, yes i see, and always under Education only.

GrungeBlobPrimpants · 16/11/2009 16:40

Oo-er. I'd noticed the OP's posts before but not 'clicked' on the pattern

It's the "it's been 6 wweeks since start of term" that made me - as it patently isn't for either state or private.

zanzibarmum · 16/11/2009 16:44

Goodness me! What sort of agenda.?

My real 'agenda' is to understand if some aspects of a school that I might be giving priority to in the secondary transfer process have turned out to be important or not for others once their DC have joined the chosen school. And whether things that were not part of their thinking actually turned out to be important.

Is that sort of question allowed?

OP posts:
catinthehat2 · 16/11/2009 16:52

Is that for your DC's transferring to 2ndary?

zanzibarmum · 16/11/2009 16:57

Not a journalist but a parent with an interest like many on MINUTE in education of my dC and the wider educational issues.

You are right though it is 10 not 6 weeks since the start of the term in Sept.

I think it's a fair question.
I'm currently looking at secondary schools and am aware that I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for.

bruffin · 17/11/2009 09:58

Why don't you start a new thread with your questions Litchick

zanzibarmum · 17/11/2009 13:47

Litchick - thank you. But I fear that Bruffin has succeeded in sapbotaging this thread with her simply wrong charge that the question was from a journalist with an agenda. I see since someone else has been denounced as a journalist on another thread - maybe that's the equivalent in cyber social settings to Arthur Miller's chilling account of the witches of salem.

ds1 is in yr8, but we have never had any regrets whatsoever about our choice of school. Things we looked at that were important to us, and we think have been justified are:

  • Care, vision, approach of HT and SMT
  • Structure of yr7 and how students are supported in their transition to secondary
  • Options system (for yr9)
  • Subject specialists teaching from yr7
  • Exam results
  • Ofsteds
