Abbeyfield School in Chippenham

Anyone know what Abbeyfield school is like in Chippenham? I spoke to about four different students who go there just before school broke up for the Summer holidays and they all said it's a rough school with lots of bullying. So I thought I would post this message to see if any mums online say similar or different?

Not sure, though I know of someone who teaches there (who is apparently always very very stressed).

I know the other two Chippenham schools (esp Sheldon) have very good results, so suspect this is the new (unproven) option.

I have just joined this site especially to post this messsage re abbeyfield.It is a brilliant school, a lovely modern purposed built building now with an excellent 6th form facility. The head and all the staff I have met are true professionals who are really friendly and have the childrens best interest at heart. Yes, there are some behavioural problems, but no more than you find in any secondary school. Fortunately the small size of the place means that they are able to be identified and dealt with swiftly. The pastoral care is second to non with dedicated non teaching pastoral managers for each year group.I have not heard of any specific bullying issues - indeed I know personally of 2 children who have moved for other chippenham secondary schools to get away from bullies.I believe that results wise it is still having to prove itself - it has just had its first 'a' level results which exceeded expectation. I would not hestitate to recommend the school to anyone, as my child is so happy there and meeting and exceeding targets in all subject areas.

HI kerdazzle, I don't live in chippenham, but am nearby. I dont know anything about abbeyfield, but the other 2 schools both have a good reputation. Perhaps it's worth checking their admission policies re catchment areas?

My cousins go to Abbeyfield and have had no problems with bullying and are doing very well academically.

As a parent with sen attending this school i would advise a different school, the pastoral care is so over subscribed they say you wait upto a year for a consultation, too many supply teachers cause confusion and bad teaching, no communication between slt and heads to parents.
lots of bullying issues and children coming to this school with severe behavior problems that are not being managed effectively for the safety of others. staff over stretched and lack understanding and compassion. sorry.
