DD has been given some information from the school but not masses tbh, before parents evening next week and her speaking to her Art tutor is there any advice on which one to take for GCSE? The applied appears to be a work placement? any advice from teachers or parents who's child has taken the Applied GCSE greatfully received, as this is the one she is interested in

I may be wrong, and am willing to stand corrected if I am, but aren't the 'applied' GCSEs more vocational courses and the 'plain' (for want of a better word) GCSEs a more academic course? This would fit with the applied Art having a work placement, presumably.

There is a lot of coursework involved in Art GCSE so your DD has to be very self motivated (speaking from experience with DS1 who, although good at drawing, found the somewhat abstract nature of the Art GCSE very difficult!!!).

Thanks it does seem to be a more vocational course but in this instance seems to be widely accepted by future employers (not sure Unis?) as a good option over the other GCSE? and is worth 2 GCSE's (apparently) will know more after parents evening perhaps
