Hi All, I would like some advice please. My son started at Habs boys after passing exams at 13+, he joined with about 20 other kids last year in Y9. He got a few acquitances thoughout the year but according to him all social networks have already been built before and he didn't manage to find any friends. As a parent very worried that he has no invites to birthdays, no meet ups during the holidays, etc.. Academally he is not struggling at all, really good results but socially he is not happy. Any advice from parents at the school? How does it go for other kids at this age? Thank you

The 20 kids will be split so 4 or 5 per class

Did they do buddy system when he joined?
(Historically they did this)

Is he doing any lunchtime or after school clubs? Sports teams are generally good - any of those?
Late coach is also good for socialising.

Any cultural societies applicable? Jsoc/ Desi type stuff?

Has he invited any of them to do anything?
Perhaps you could facilitate something

It is a big school - a child will not know all children even in their own year... and a number of them will have formed friendships as early as pre-prep which have continued through the years...

but as above, a lot of the social networking is interest based - so joining lunchtime or after-school clubs or connecting through sports is probably the best route ahead - hope it works out for him... (old boy here...)

Thank you for your comments. Still wondering whether it is the norm these days not to meet up outside school? No invites to birthdays?
He goes to aftecr school clubs but it doesn't seem to change anything

Thank you all for your responses.
He is interested in maths and science. He started playing games others play to fit in.
Goes to lunchtime and after school clubs etc but nothing seems to change things. It feels like other kids are not interested in doing anything together outside school?? Worried he is missing on socialising and not having fun
