Is is music A Level, or music technology BTEC?

Jaffapaffa · 23/09/2026 19:26

Either way, some knowledge of basic music would be needed.

I'm not a music teacher, I'm a History teacher, but I would not be happy to take someone for A level without a GCSE in the subject.

AFAIK you need to play an instrument to a minimum of Grade 6/7 to take A level music. Does your child do so?

Thanks, I think the only option is music technology Btec,

Why don’t you look at the college entry requirements? I actually looked at it with my DC1. This is one of the colleges we looked at with a stronger music department compared to the other https://psc.ac.uk/study/course/music#

GCSE in music is preferred, but not required. They will take you if you are an experienced musician. In addition, you need to play at grade 5 level. You also should have passed grade 5 theory, otherwise you need to pass it in your first year.
