I’m looking into The Swedish School in London (the one based in Barnes, Richmond) for my child and would love to hear from any current or past parents.
I know they recently got an Outstanding Ofsted report (June 2023) which praises the academics, sixth form, and overall culture, but I’d love some real-life insights into how it actually feels day-to-day.
I'm British but my wife is Swedish, and we are planning ahead as to which education system is best. I'm really open to the Swedish system, but also a bit anxious as It may impact kid integration in London. It's completely unclear whether we intend to stay in the UK long-term of move to Sweden at this time - hence why the optionality and this option is super useful!
If your children go there (or went there recently), I’d be so grateful if you could share:
- The curriculum balance: How well does the Swedish curriculum integrate with life/future studies in the UK? Is the English provision strong enough if they want to switch to a British secondary school or UK university later? The school highlights good UK University admissions, but not a classic breakdown you find at UK private schools.
- School culture: Is it as warm, welcoming, and community-focused as the Ofsted report suggests? I really like the sound of the community feel, which is usually lacking at most UK private schools (especially in London!).
- The logistics: For anyone commuting from outside the immediate Barnes area, how do you find the school run? We live in Balham at the moment, so keen to understand if everyone there is local to Barnes / East Sheen area...
