Can anyone share their in year transfer waitlist stories for me to cling to?

I have posted about this before, but I’ll give an overview again.
My DC has been on the waiting list for our nearest school since June as their current secondary school isn’t working. DC been bullied, excluded and is not settling so we collectively decided on the move as they have friends there from primary. We gave it a year.
Sadly, this school is oversubscribed for their year group, so we had to join the waitlist. We were originally 2nd, but sadly went down to 4th after new additions to the list.
we were desperate to get them in now so they didn’t have to go back to their old school but sadly doesn’t look like that will happen.
Does anyone have any happy miraculous stories on being in a similar position and then getting a place??
They were 4th mid August but I haven’t asked since. I won’t ask again until end of September. But are there any admissions officers or parents out there with success stories specially for in-year places? is there a lot of movement in year?
