He genuinely didn't believe me that university isn't like that any more, so I dragged him to the open day to see for himself. He's spent the day muttering about declining standards, absurd outfits and so on and so forth. Now he doesn't believe me that every university is like this. I did say that if he wants to wear a suit every day, no one is going to stop him.

Next stops: Imperial and Warwick, where I'm sure he'll be similarly horrified. I've gently suggested a degree apprenticeship in a corporate workspace where suits are normal.

No, not yet. Have been trying to decide whether the risk of mark going down is worth it. Did your DC’s school or teacher give any recommendation before you went for the remark?

Do you know how close she was to the next grade?

According to good ole chat gpt, my dd would have to lose around 25 marks on a remark so I feel reasonably confident that won't happen and the worst case is that she stays the same

@makemineadecaf epq is very self directed. Our high school has kids doing it instead of a gsce. So might be only an hour class but needs lots self directed hours…

How many hours per week of lessons do your kids have per subject? Apparently, my daughter has 6 hours per subject per week, which seems more than I've previously read on here. Seems quite intense. She's also signed up to do a pre-vet course at her college (no idea what it entails) so that's additional lessons twice per week. Seems she won't have much free study time at all. She's also trying to do Russian A-level in a year 🤪 Maybe too much.

Sadly (or not) DS isn't interested in Oxbridge so we can't send our child back to them.

@XelaM 4-5 is the norm everywhere here and from all I’ve read

7 x 45 min lessons here so 5.25 hours a week per subject. I think anything between 4-6 seems typical.

Mine seems to have 4 hours a week per subject and 8 hours of supervised study . Doing 4 subjects but must drop one in October . He’s only been back 2 days but has already changed his mind about which one he will drop !
Two games afternoon sessions too which for him has always been a life saver to decompress .

Mine has 4x65 minutes per subject, plus a 65 min EPQ session, a 65 min futures/career session and a 65 minute compulsory do something enriching. Need not be sport but could be. Yesterday he had one session at 9 and one at 3 so left to go for a swim!

DD has 4.5hrs a week per subject. She cant do enrichments as clashes with FM. Not heard anything about EPQs
They have been told they need an A in first assessment to continue with FM.

Mine has 5 hours per week per subject. Hour long lessons but also have a 45 minute morning break and 1hour 15 for lunch so the day doesn't finish until 4.30 if you have a final lesson.

Anyone's DD have a bag that isn't a backpack? Apparently DD is one of the few that has a backpack so is now campaigning for a handbag but not really sure what to get her. It seems a bit mad not to have something with more support but I've been told I know nothing about teen fashion!

I think the vast majority of girls have a shoulder bag rather than a backpack

Shoulder bags are definitely the thing, a fake longchamp did OK for DD, but she also has a plain black one now bought for £5 off a friend!

Dd has a longchamp. It’s basically essential uniform at her school!

I did suggest a Longchamp but she wasn't keen. I like the fact that they're very light and quite durable, have an ancient myself but maybe she thinks they're old fashioned as I have one!

DD still using rucksack got lots to carry !

DD has 4.5 hours a week per subject, 1 hour of games and 1 hour of compulsory RE. She’s absolutely loving it so far, they have an exam in Maths next week which they have to score 60% or above to stay on the course apparently. She has got a lot of homework so straight back into it.

We put her paper 2 lit in for review as there was an agreement that it looked like pages hadn’t been read so we shall see.

We treated DD to a Longchamp after results day and I ordered an organiser for inside to structure it a bit which works well. Most girls seem to have similar.

A level choices now settled. DD decided to drop physics and stick with chemistry - except for the problem with 1 of the teachers. So yesterday when she asked to drop physics she asked if she could be moved to a different chemistry class. They asked the reason but it was no issue apparently and she's very happy. She feels bad for the rest of the class stuck with him.

Also doing EPQ and I think they have to do an enrichment activity but don't think that's been sorted yet. She says the school are still expecting them to do 'creativity, action, service' which was part of the IB programme.

She says there has been lots of movement this week, and a lot are dropping maths. One of her friends has ended up being the only kid taking music.

She's had a cheap shoulder bag for a few years, no requests for a longchamp though! Just spent £60 on the chemistry and biology workbooks the school recommend.

DD picked a satchel type bag on vinted. She was quite happy with that thankfully, along with some new pens and a couple of pukka pads. She's definitely not always so low maintenance!
